Job Description
The Electrical Engineer II (Embedded Motor Control) will support electrical systems development of robotic sample acquisition and handling devices used in planetary exploration.
The Electrical Engineer will report directly to the avionics manager and interface with inter-disciplinary teams in development of electrical components and avionics systems.
Responsibilities
- Conduct analog and digital circuit board designs for various applications.
- Perform circuit analysis for motor drive electronics.
- Support projects through all phases of development: concepts, prototyping, production.
- Develop and generate work instruction packages for manufacturing and test.
- Conduct and document worst case analysis and finite element analysis of circuits and motion control systems.
- Execute test work instructions.
- Perform electrical evaluation and selection of instrumentation (temperature, pressure, position, etc).
- Develop electrical ground support equipment for testing various robotic systems.
- Review test data and recommend changes to products and/or processes
Required Experience, Skills and Education
- US Person (US Citizen or Permanent Resident)
- BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or similar engineering field
- 3+ years in motor control or driver electronics development.
- Experienced in selection of electric motors and position sensors.
- Experience in selection and use of commercial motor drives.
- Experienced in selection of logic elements (Microcontrollers/ FPGA/ SoC).
- Experienced with Altium schematic capture and PCB layout tool or equivalent.
- Familiar with embedded C development.
- Familiar with Spice simulation.
- Proficient with using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and LCR meters.
- Detail oriented with an emphasis on design documentation and summary report generation.
