This role will be highly influential in the design and implementation of that new network.The RoleEdgecast is looking for a Distinguished Architect to join our engineering team in the role of an Distinguished Architect for our efforts at building an edge cloud. Working with a highly skilled team to transform the Edgecast network from a traditional CDN into an edge cloud which focuses on many different high-value workloads/products. This role is a cross functional one that will work with engineering and product leaders across Edgecast to define the next-generation platform for seamlessly building edge-native products across different verticals such as Media and Entertainment, Retail, Financial Services, Public Safety, Medicine, Education, etc.ResponsibilitiesWork with engineering and product leadership to help design and architect the edge cloud network. The edge cloud network is to be a new platform, based on dynamic orchestration of workloads, from which we wish to base all of our edge products.Collaborate with engineering leadership to create the solution architecture, launch sequencing, and resources needs to meet the elements on the product roadmapParticipate in design/architectural reviews of products running on the edge cloud platform to ensure that the platform supports product requirementsBe the “go-to” expert for Kubernetes and container best practices.Help architect CDN extensions and translate CDN functions to the edge cloud and in the back office.Architect compute offerings across the edge cloud and the CDN edge for maximum reuse and extensibilityAdvise on porting CDN operational capabilities (monitoring, metrics, alerting, etc) to the edge cloud for greater capital efficiency of the networkAdvise on porting backoffice workloads into dynamic orchestration for flexibility and repeatability of those deploymentsHelp design and build proofs-of-concept of valuable product/architectural incrementsProvide thought leadership on the concept of an edge cloudReview legacy offerings to decouple and reimagine them into new products and workflowsMinimum QualificationsBS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics or related discipline, or equivalent experience.Experience in network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP/S, DNS, BGP).Previous experience architecting internet-scale applications/platformsDeep knowledge and use of dynamic orchestration frameworks such as kubernetesExperience working in Cloud EnvironmentsResponsible, self-directed, forward thinker, and operates with urgency, focus, discipline and minimal supervisionAbility to lead by consensus and to influence beyond their formal authorityPreferred Skills/ExperiencePrevious work building CDNsPrevious work building Cloud PlatformsPrevious work building Video products/platformsMS/Ph.D. in related disciplineYahoo is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace.
