Director, Enterprise Architecture

Reporting to the Vice President of Technology, the Director of Enterprise Architecture will provide forward-looking vision and operational direction for developing and implementing enterprise-wide systems, architecture, and services.

The Director of Enterprise Architecture will be a transformative leader with a demonstrated ability to provide innovative IT solutions to address the complex requirements of a perpetually evolving higher education environment.

In partnership with a broad range of institutional stakeholders, the Director will be a collaborative leader and manager of the enterprise systems team delivering reliable and quality enterprise systems as well as customer engagement and service.

This role directly supervises one team member, reports to the Vice President of Technology and is a regular full-time position that can be performed from anywhere in the contiguous United States.

What are the details?

  • Serve as a member of the IT department’s Leadership Team to provide technology leadership as well as actionable execution of NMSI’s IT strategic plan.
  • Leads and controls the activities of a broad functional area through senior managers, managers and/or high-level professionals within the department with overall responsibility for planning, budgeting, implementing, and maintaining costs, methods, and employees.
  • Establish and execute the technical direction for technology solutions design and delivery including management of third-party providers.
  • Demonstrate understanding of current and emerging innovative technologies and services that could be used to advance NMSI’s mission.
  • Manage solution vendors, establish new technology partnerships, review, and manage contracts, and recommend industry-leading technology solutions.
  • Evaluate external systems (CMS, LMS, CRM, etc.) and recommend best fit for NMSI needs.
  • Establish best security practices and ensure that data and systems adhere to the best security standards.
  • Manage, retain, recruit, and continually develop the highest caliber Enterprise Architecture team.

    Conduct an organizational review of enterprise systems team to ensure that processes and resources are optimally deployed.

  • Work collaboratively with a broad range of institutional stakeholders promoting a culture of service and excellence.
  • Work to continually engage with and strengthen IT advisory committees, initiative teams, and communities of interest.
  • Accountable for maintaining the security and confidentiality of any proprietary or sensitive information or data in any medium regarding students, faculty, or staff.
  • Available to work after hours and/or weekends, and participate in the departmental on-call process, as required by the position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What are we looking for?

  • Education & Experience – BS in technology preferred or equivalent work experience.

    Experience in evaluating and implementing technology solutions at the enterprise level.

    Experience in technology leadership roles.

  • Technical Skills – You have experience working on Cloud architectures (NMSI uses Azure).

    You understand Microsoft products and technologies.

  • Strategic Thinker – You demonstrate an analytical approach with a strong ability to uncover and resolve problems.

    You think analytically, prioritize tasks, and develop processes that monitor progress and performance.

    You rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

    You have a demonstrated desire to maintain and grow skills in an ever-changing technology market.

    You have experience and ability to lead technical and non-technical team members—including but not limited to—staffing, development, performance management, strategic and tactical direction.

    You are also able to facilitate cross-functional teams.

  • Adaptability – You are able to adapt to changes and challenges through creativity and problem-solving.
  • Change Manager – You have proven experience in implementing technology change management throughout the organization.

What do we offer?

The salary range for this position is $115,000
– $140,000 and commensurate with experience, with the potential for a higher salary depending on experience.

We take pay equity seriously and work hard to ensure our team members are paid fairly no matter their gender, race, or other demographic backgrounds.

In addition to a competitive salary with the potential for an annual pay increase, we offer a comprehensive total rewards package, including paying roughly 85% of employee-only medical, dental, and vision benefits plus a large portion for dependents.

Staff are eligible to participate in 401(k) after 90 days of employment, with up to a 6% employee match, fully vested on day one of participation in the plan.

Other benefits for full-time employees include referral and performance-based annual bonuses, telecommunications stipends for eligible remote employees, 14-16 paid holidays annually (including a week-long winter break), and a generous PTO policy starting at 18 days per year.
