The Company
Rescue provides behavior change marketing services (or “social marketing”) to government, non-profit and corporate organizations. Rescue’s current work focuses on tobacco, obesity, violence and alcohol prevention; the promotion of exercise, fresh foods and after school programs; and other products and services that promote healthy living. Rescue’s behavior change campaigns focus on diverse populations within teen (13 – 17), young adult (18 – 26), and adult (18+) populations in both rural and urban areas, resulting in a vast array of campaign styles and strategies.

Rescue is a full-service agency, providing research, strategy, creative, production, web, traditional media, social media, policy change, youth engagement and experiential marketing services to clients in over 25 states and provinces, as well as to federal government agencies.

The Job
We are looking for a dynamic, high performing Creative Director with experience creating campaigns with video, digital media, website and social content that is rooted in strong strategic insights. The ideal candidate should be a chameleon on paper, easily switching between brand voices and using their personality and passion to bring our national brands to life across digital and traditional media alike. The Creative Director is responsible for leading and coordinating the efforts of our in-house creative team to develop ideas executed across multiple channels including digital, traditional, social and events. The Creative Director’s primary role will be to facilitate, contribute and ensure ideas satisfy the objectives of the creative brief, align with the identity of the brand, and adhere to the overall strategy of the campaign. The Creative Director is a leader, a creative mind, and a project manager all in one.

The job of the Creative Director entails activities pertaining to, but not limited to:

Leadership
Adapts leadership style to inspire and mentor teams of various levels to reach their full potential and produce the best work possible;
Ability to lead the prioritization and management of both team and individual work, ensuring everyone adheres to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment;
Demonstrates capacity to move a project forward while still taking the time to foster the talents of the creative team and encouraging collaboration and camaraderie;
Manages a copywriting team and coaches them to quality performance;
Organizes and manages brainstorm sessions across the creative department including but not limited to: Copywriters, Editors, Developers and Designers;
Demonstrates a strong ability to provide clear creative direction and provide timely feedback to keep work on budget and on schedule;
Ability to clearly articulate and help their team understand what needs to get done so they are fully set up for success;
Manages multiple projects, with the ability to switch from one to the other seamlessly while staying on deadline and within budget;
Lead ideation and copywriting for a wide range of marketing outputs including, but not limited to, short-form video, editorial content, interactive web experiences, social content, experiential activations and traditional broadcast;
Leads, inspires and collaborates with the team to produce inventive, thoughtful and relevant work;
Monitors and maintains focus on the mission to make healthy behaviors easier and more appealing;
Leads and champions the generation of ideas, including both art and copy concepts, for all Rescue brands and campaigns;
Reviews and approves the work of all direct reports before seeking the approval of the Executive Creative Director for dissemination to other departments or clients;
Represents the company in front of clients and presents ideas to clients;
Understands and applies the differences between behavior change and traditional marketing to creative concepts to ensure that they cause behavior change;
Monitors and maintains the Ideation teams focus on Rescue’s mission to make healthy behaviors easier and more appealing, and ensures the creative output of all projects from the Ideation team are of the highest standard;
Coordinates with a variety of departments including Strategy, Research, and Client Services, to ensure creative is strategically sound, based in research, and meets client expectations;
Responsible for final review of all concepts and approving final work product for all team members before it is delivered to other internal departments or clients;
Work with Operations and Project Management to provide scope and estimates to delegate resources to a variety of creative projects;
Provides regular performance feedback to direct reports, including crafting and delivering performance reviews.

Ideation & Copywriting
Ideates and writes creative that satisfies the brief, aligns with the brand’s strategy and contributes to behavior change;
Develops creative that is strategic, forward-thinking, and in-line with current media trends;
Takes ownership of copy and ideation assignments and develops creative that meets a very high standard;
Pushes the agency and clients towards fresh, exciting ideas through innovative ideation and copywriting.

Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED + 3 years relevant experience;
Experience leading a creative team in an agency environment;
Experience writing audience-facing content for organic, paid social, websites, mobile applications, and paid digital media;
Experience overseeing numerous projects at once;
Intimate familiarity with how brands engage in today’s connected universe;
Sufficient knowledge of digital and social media to develop ideas that utilize the latest technologies;
Ability to brainstorm solo or in groups and develop big ideas from beginning to end;
Excellent writing skills in a broad range of styles including grammar and proofreading skills;
Proven ability to excel in high-stress, fast-paced environments;
Proven ability to quickly identify problems and solve them;
Highly attentive to detail;
Strong verbal communication skills.

Location: San Diego, CA or Los Angeles, CA (position will be remote until Rescue resumes in-person operations)

The Fine Print
Environment:
All business-related environments are tobacco-free. Must have valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and computer and Internet access. Must be available to work non-traditional hours such as late nights and weekends.

Physical Requirements:
Able to remain in a sitting position for prolonged periods of time and stoop, bend, reach, climb stairs, and move freely throughout the building for the performance of duties. Able to read from a computer or laptop monitor for several hours at a time including fonts of various sizes from a variety of sources. Able to travel nationwide as needed to meet with clients, coworkers, or attend meetings and seminars.
