Boeing Defense Space and Security (BDS) is currently looking for a Structures Design Engineer – Ground Support Operation – Experienced / Senior to join their team in El Segundo, CA. This position will focus on Ground Support Operations involving Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) and Tooling, used in support of the fabrication, testing, shipping and launch site processing of various satellite programs. 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate program and project requirements.
  • Develop complex equipment and tooling concepts and designs solutions for the Production System
  • Participate in the development, integration and documentation of space vehicle Tooling/MGSE integration flows based on design requirements to facilitate/increase productivity during vehicle integration
  • Validate contractual performance milestones, maintain configuration control, conduct reviews, review plans for production readiness, preventative maintenance, and spares
  • Develop, maintain Tooling nonconformance dispositions during vehicle integration
  • Interpret Tool engineering documents using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle
  • Perform and integrate analytical and test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications
  • Manage supplier development, test and production activities and coordinate with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals
  • Support in the development of new design/analysis processes to improve the effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort
  • Investigate emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs, vehicle integration and vehicle test to meet project requirements
  • Compile and analyze technical data to determine the effects on product engineering design and rate estimates, identifies robotics, automation or technology recommendations and system integration for equipment and tooling
  • Ensures compliance with safety, producibility, maintainability, reliability, ergonomic factors and regulatory requirements
  • Work under general direction

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final Top Secret & Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance Post Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s, degree or higher from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
  • 3 or more years of experience using Computer Aided Design software (e.g. Solidworks, Catia, CreoParametric & CreoView).
  • 3 or more years of experience with drawing, reading, interpreting and applied experience in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • 3 or more years of experience in Mechanical Ground Support Equipment and/or Tool Engineering.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • Experience in Materials and Manufacturing Metals & Assembly/Joining
  • Experience in Mechanical Design
  • Experience in Tool Design
  • Experience in Design Engineering
  • Experience in Conceptual Design

Typical Education/Experience: 

Experienced – Level 3 

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master +3 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior – Level 4

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD +4 years’ related work experience, Master +7 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation:

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only.  Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range for mid-level: $96,050 –$129,950

Summary pay range for senior level: $120,700 – $163,300
