Job Details:

  • SEEKING CANDIDATES IN THE NORTH HOLLYWOOD, SAN PEDRO, VENICE, AND GARDENA AREA WITH AN INTEREST IN WORKING WITH, GRADE LEVELS KTH-8TH IN A WIDE RANGE OF ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL SUBJECTS INCLUDING SCIENCE, MATH, ENGLISH, ESSAY WRITING AND MORE!
  • Available Monday ? Friday, from end of June through July 30th (with possibility of hours in early August), Part-Time approx 30 hours/week.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Responsibilities:

  • Provide homework assistance, academic enrichment and physical activity, using curriculum and materials provided by the program.
  • Support students in making positive behavior choices and take disciplinary measures when appropriate.
  • Engage children and youth by following, implementing, and assisting in creating lesson plans.
  • Ensure student safety by assisting in set up, break down, and ongoing maintenance in an effort to keep the school or community site clean and orderly.
  • Maintain student safety by taking roll and reviewing sign-in/ sign-outs for students and volunteers.
  • Identify student needs and communicate to Site Coordinator, teachers, school administration, parents, and volunteers as appropriate.
  • Participate in staff development activities.

Reports to Site Coordinator and Assistant Site Coordinator

  • Leading Ice Breakers/ Curriculum and Educational Activities
  • Experience and interest in working with youth in an educational setting is strongly desired.
  • Interest in working with, mentoring, and tutoring at-risk youth;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, peers, school staff and others;
  • Ability to effectively tutor students in assigned subject(s);
  • Ability to work as part of a team and act as a positive role model for students;
  • Experience leading engaging student activities
  • Comfortable conducting presentations, recruitment, and public speaking
  • Ability to work and lead the class independently and with a partner(s)
  • Maintain accurate records such as attendance, timesheets
  • Report all injuries/incidents neatly and efficiently in a timely manner
  • Staff regular attendance, dependability, and punctuality in conformance with the standards are essential to the successful performance of this position.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and Risk Management training as needed

Requirements & Desired Skills

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED, and at minimum one of the following: An Associate Degree from a recognized college or university; or Completed 48 semester units from a recognized college or university;
  • 1 year?s experience working in youth centered programs and/or community based organizations
  • 1 year?s experience teaching, leading, and/or supporting secondary students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Bilingual Preferred
  • Ability to work independently
  • Good communication skills
  • High Energy, Flexible, adaptable, team player, Self-starter
  • A valid California driver?s license Live Scan and Tuberculosis Test
  • Open for opportunities for growth
  • Willingness to be flexible and commute to school sites

Pay Scale

$20 an hour

Availability:

Must be available Mon – Fri, 7:30am-1:30pm/ 12:00-6:00pm

COVID-19 considerations:
All employees are required to get COVID tested 1x per week at an LAUSD site per LAUSD regulations. Time spent getting test will be compensated. Employees also required to take COVID safety training. All PPE and safety protocols followed on campus.
