VP of Construction – Los Angeles

We are looking for a flexible, detail-oriented team player with the ability to manage multiple tasks, manage project teams, produce quality work, and consistently meet deadlines. This individual will be responsible for business development, contract negotiations, and the high-level oversight of project controls, project engineering, cost, risk and business management of multiple projects. The VP of Construction will work closely with all members of the project team and leadership teams.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • To Meet or Exceed the Project Goals and Objectives of: Customer satisfaction, Safety, Quality, Schedule, Profitability, Teamwork, and Company Success
  • Management of all project team members (project managers, project engineers, superintendents, and project coordinators). Project teams will range in size from 5-20 employees
  • Participate extensively in helping to acquire and define projects and develop budgets that will achieve profitability objectives, taking into account project-specific challenges
  • Responsible for project quality control and quality assurance that construction meets or exceeds the plans, specifications, codes, and approved shop drawings
  • Visit sites regularly to monitor project performance, schedule, and expenditures with project staff, highlight potential challenges and provide leadership in responding creatively to bring projects in on schedule and under budget, where feasible
  • Project Management, Quality Review and Project Close-Out; responsible for ensuring that Projects achieve budget and profitability objectives.
  • Manage superintendent’s performance, including site conditions and schedule adherence
  • Oversee project start-up and close-out, assume responsibility for project completion and financials, critical success factors, and customer satisfaction results
  • Build and maintain relationships and company image
  • Oversee all project safety
  • Mentor, develop and train team members, contribute to internal employee development and growth
  • Actively participate in regional operations (staffing, business planning, preconstruction efforts, etc.)
  • Travel requirement of 30% – 50% (mostly in and between Orange Country, Los Angeles, and San Diego areas)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in the project management/executive role, preferably within RAM’s core markets
  • Healthcare, advanced technology, life sciences or corporate office core market experience required
  • Has adept knowledge of all principals of construction, methods, techniques, print reading, contracting, and construction management
  • Capable of dealing with ambiguity and tight work oversight
  • 100 % detailed/hands-on knowledge of project scope
  • Experience with running multiple complex, highly technical projects, involving complex scheduling and/or project valuations of more than $15 million – preferably within RAM Construction’s core markets
  • Knows and uses UBC Building Code and project specific codes and can use it as a tool
  • Must be able to perform project pre-construction activities including, estimating, bidding, value engineering and scheduling
  • Must have knowledge and experience with preparing Lump Sum, Guaranteed Maximum Price, Unit Cost, and Design Build proposals
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, project management software (Procore), accounting cost management software (Procore), and scheduling software

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, an employee is regularly required sit for long periods; stand; talk and hear both in person and by telephone; and use hands to operate, finger, handle or feel office equipment; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk, climb, stoop or bend and lift up to twenty-five pounds. Must have the ability to walk up and down the stairs several times a day.
