About the Job
Dudek is seeking a Habitat Restoration Specialist with 5 to 10 or more years of experience in the field of ecological restoration to join our Habitat Restoration Group. This position will be based in one of our California offices. All qualified candidates within the stated range of experience are encouraged to submit their resumes.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Primary responsibilities of this position include the following:
- Site assessments and opportunities and constraints analysis for habitat restoration/mitigation projects
- Conceptual design and planning for habitat restoration/mitigation, projects including preparation of resource agency-formatted conceptual mitigation plan documents
- Construction level final design of habitat restoration/mitigation projects
- Habitat assessments, vegetation mapping, and other general biological survey assignments
- Business Development for Habitat Restoration Services
- Client Marketing and Relations, and proposal preparation and coordination
- Project Management including workflow, budget tracking, sub-consultant coordination and coordination with internal staff experts
- QA/QC technical review
- Assistance with resource agency permitting
- Coordination with in-house biologists, botanists, engineers and hydrologists
- Regular and frequent communication, feedback, and coordination with Supervisors, Project Managers, and Phase Managers is required
- Minimum Bachelor of Science in Restoration Ecology, Botany, Biology, Environmental Science, or other applicable major.
At a minimum, candidates will have a positive employment history with a network of existing client contacts, and detailed knowledge and understanding of the following subject matter:
- Excellent writing skills and ability to draft and edit technical documents
- Broad knowledge of local ecology, plant communities, hydrology, and the chemical and physical properties of soils
- Broad knowledge of ecological processes and landscape construction
- Native California vegetation communities and component plant species by association
- Native plant species regional range and microhabitat requirements
- Non-native plant and animal species identification and control strategies and treatments.
- Mitigation Banks and In-Lieu Fee Programs
- Ability to relate topographic mapping to onsite field conditions and design for habitat restoration projects
- Ability to use digital field mapping and inventory software
- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) 2008 Compensatory Mitigation Rule; Corps guidance documents for determination of mitigation ratios, uniform ecological performance standards, regional compensatory mitigation and monitoring; and Corps 404 regulatory permit program
- California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) Regulatory Program under Section 1600 of Fish & Game Code
Preferred Qualifications
The most highly qualified candidate will be a self-motivated and self-directed individual with proven business development expertise who has a solid grounding in ecological principals and Restoration Ecology; a creative problem solver willing and able to work individually and in a team environment; mental adaptability and a willingness to aggressively seek information from a variety of sources to maintain forward project momentum.
