Houck Construction Inc is hiring for a full-time Construction Estimator with 3+ years of experience estimating high end residential construction projects, specifically producing estimates from scope and projects with no plans.
We are a privately held family business that has operated in the Los Angeles area for over 30 years and have built & remodeled some of Los Angeles’ most luxurious homes.

Role:
The Estimator will produce accurate, comprehensive, and clear estimates for residential remodel and ground up build projects, both with and without plans/drawings.
Final estimates will include cost of materials, equipment, and labor necessary for the construction of a project and entirely capture scopes of work.
The estimator also sources and negotiates bids for trades involved and maintains relationships with various subcontractors.
The ideal candidate will be thorough, organized, have excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, and an understanding for design and aesthetic.
Responsibilities:
Determine all project resources needed (manpower, equipment, and materials) from start to finish and clearly and accurately represent all information in our written proposal format.
Manage client, architect, and designer expectations pre-project.
Project WITHOUT Plans:
o Review scope, site visit notes, and site photos to determine all project resources needed.
o Collaborate with clients, internal staff, subcontractors, and vendors to determine accurate specifications for projects and confirm client desired materials and finishes, while mindful of client’s budget.
Project WITH Plans:
o Review plans and specification requirements for construction projects to ensure completeness and accuracy and to detect errors and omissions.
o Collaborate with architects, engineers, designers, clients, and internal staff to determine accurate specifications for projects.
o Manage subcontractor RFI’s, drawing submittals & project addendums.
o Perform quantity take offs and pricing calculations.
Generate trade lists, subcontractor lists, and performs bid leveling.
Manage all pre-project bids.
Negotiate with subcontractors and vendors to achieve competitive pricing and provides value engineering.
Attends project/construction meetings as needed.
Visits sites as needed to complete estimating tasks.
Manage & maintain relationships with subcontractors and vendors.
Collaborates with internal Houck team to successfully deliver project proposals on time and capturing all scope.
Skills:
Detailed knowledge of construction processes and principles.
Ability to read and interpret constructions drawings and specifications.
Ability to perform quantity take-offs.
Ability to manage and successfully estimate multiple projects at once.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Highly detail orientated and strong mathematical skills.
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Experience with estimating software.
