Job Title: Administrative Assistant II, Ophthalmology – Calabasas UC Job Title: 4723 – BLANK AST 2 Job Number: req23374 Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm Job Type: career Duration: Indefinite Work Location: Los Angeles Salary Range: 22.16 – 31.45 Job Duties: In this role, you will provide front office support including greeting patients, performing patient check-in/out processes, assuring patients are appropriately registered and insurance information is accurate. In addition, provide administrative support including collecting patient payments, performing insurance verification, scheduling follow-up appointments and/or ancillary testing, obtaining records/authorizations, and performing encounter in patient registration system(s). Assist in coordinating patient flow throughout the clinic, from registration to discharge. This position also coordinates and schedule all aspects of patient surgeries for ophthalmologists in multispecialty group practice, including pre-operative testing, insurance verification, obtaining pre-authorizations and scheduling post-operative visits. Job Qualifications: Required: Minimum two years’ experience working in medical office. Experience scheduling patient appointments in computerized appointment scheduling system. Excellent interpersonal skills which promote pleasant and effective communication with patients, staff and doctors. Excellent organizational skills and ability to maintain records in a clear and orderly manner at the direction of the Office Manager. Working knowledge of medical terminology and diseases, as it applies to the eye. Familiarity with current patient billing practices. Sufficient computer keyboard skills to perform appointment scheduling, encountering, emailing, and other related computer tasks. Ability to prioritize tasks in a systematic manner to maximize efficiency. Ability to work with frequent interruptions and to complete assignments in a timely manner. Knowledge of current governmental programs to ensure reimbursement. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to multitask effectively. Flexibility and adaptability given the dynamic nature of medicine and departmental needs. The ability to interact calmly and effectively with providers, staff, as well as patients with difficult personalities. Preferred: Two years’ experience working in a medical teaching institution. Two years’ experience in ophthalmology practice setting. Familiarity with ophthalmology and related terminology. One year of experience with an electronic medical record (EMR).
