Job Summary:Coverage of private equity sponsors related to middle market direct lending, leveraged finance and other banking opportunities.

Originate and oversee execution of transactions with sponsors in the direct lending, pro-rata, ABL, unitranche, capital markets, securitization, and other product areas of MUFG Union Bank.

Build relationships across covered private equity firms, including sector-oriented deal partners, capital markets professionals, and senior management.

Coordinate MUFG Union Bank’s capabilities, while using commercial judgment to pursue attractive risk/return situations.

Collaborate across the firm, including product experts, industry bankers and senior management.

Position will require business travel and meetings with clients to foster a trusted relationship and the ability to effectively involve relevant MUFG Union Bank’s colleagues across the bank.

With the launch of the bank’s Sponsor Middle Market Direct Lending initiative, the sponsor LBO opportunity set is substantially larger, and this position will help to meet the growing goals of the firm.

Major Responsibilities:Reporting to the Head of Sponsor Coverage for MUFG Union Bank, this individual will work with team members on the development of pitches and transaction execution.Oversee Origination of new transactions/business development and marketing with private equity clients.Prioritize calling efforts and maintain databases to coordinate across MUFG.Coordinate:Transaction processingCredit reviewDevelopment of pitch materialsInternal problem solvingTeam supervision and managementSupport overall development and enhancement of private equity client relationships to position MUFG Union Bank with sponsors as top tier financial partner.Act as project leader, coordinating with product groups and sector teams to facilitate sponsor related financing transactions and ensure timely response and requisite approvals.Assist with executing financing transactions, generating revenue through lending, advisory, capital markets and related fee opportunities.Job responsibilities include frequent business development meetings with client.Dialog with sponsor portfolio companies on strategy, capital structure and add-on acquisition financing.

Qualifications:A Bachelor’s degree is typically required, a Master’s degree is preferable (MBA and/or JD).A minimum of 10-20 years of experience in leveraged finance, investment banking, commercial banking, or direct lending, including experience in sponsor coverage, middle market lending, and/or capital markets, with a focus on origination and client relationship development.The ability to lead & manage private equity sponsor lending end to end from origination to deal closing.Work closely with Intrepid, MUFG’s advisory boutique, in connection with sell-side opportunities relevant to sponsor clients.Strong client presence and management skills.Series 7 / 79, 63 licenses.
