Tokio Marine HCC – Surety Group, a member of the Tokio Marine Group of Companies, has an exciting opportunity for a key Finance position at our office in Los Angeles, CA.
Position OverviewThe position will be responsible for the accounting for our agency operations which includes analysis of the trial balance, production reports, recording data into the general ledger system, balance sheet reconciliations, and monthly internal reporting.
Performance Objectives and TimelineDuring the first 30 days: Get familiar with insurance accounting, agency accounting and surety operations.
Learn internal systems like PeopleSoft, GSA, and AMS.During the first 3 months: Contribute to month-end close performed by our accounting/finance team in the first 5 days of the month.
Responsibilities will include preparing cash account reconciliations, agency subledger activity reconciliations, and preparing journal entries to record activity into the general ledger.
Also, within the first 5 days after month-end, complete the closure of the agency operations on a GAAP basis and start preparing various balance sheet account reconciliations for accuracy and completeness by the 20th of each month.During the first 6 months and beyond: In addition to the above, produce basic financials including Statement of Cash Flow and various other internal reports.
As knowledge is gained, additional projects will be assigned for development and growth.
QualificationsAccounting experience that includes strong skills in journal entries, revenue, expenses, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and analysisStrong Excel skillsGood communicator with internal and external partiesWe prefer a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, or the equivalent experience in accountingSuccess characteristicsOrganized, proactive, collaborativeAble to identify and analyze root causes of problems, and provide solutionsAble to work efficiently and calmly under deadline pressureBecause this is a cash-sensitive position, a background credit check will be conducted on an annual basis.
