Staff Accountant

We have an immediate need for a Staff Accountant to join a dynamic team located in downtown Los Angeles. The Accountant will gain a thorough working knowledge of charter school funding in order to perform a variety of accounting work including preparing, processing and monitoring activities relating to cash receipts, accounts receivable transactions, and internal auditing.  He or she will prepare, maintain, review and reconcile accounts in accordance with GAAP for non-profit organizations.  He or she will also advise, train and provide responsible assistance to school site office staff and others.  The Accountant will assist in the development of improved tools, processes and approaches to ensure that work is done in the most effective and efficient manner.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare bank entries to support a cluster of schools and regional home offices including weekly deposits
  • Prepare journal entries to record revenue and expense accruals
  • Prepare invoices for accounts receivable, and see through collection
  • Guarantee successful/timely month-end close by meeting daily deadlines
  • Analyze financial data, trends, and budget vs. actuals
  • Review transaction reports and financials and discuss with accounting team members and finance team
  • Prepare schedules and organize documentation in preparation for audit visits
  • Build relationships with school site and home office staff
  • Contribute to the development of strong Finance & Accounting department that reflects operational best practices
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting is required or significant course work in accounting
  • Experience in non-profits is a plus
  • CPA or CPA-track is a plus
  • Knowledge and/or interest in charter school operations is a plus
  • Strong Excel skills (Pivot, VLookup, Index/Match, etc.)
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, oral and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented, efficient and accurate
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Ability to build and/or strengthen relationships with external stakeholders
  • Familiarity with and willingness to learn about and utilize technology to improve communication, collaboration, and productivity
  • High level of personal responsibility and drive towards ambitious goals
  • Strong sense of integrity, ethics, and drive to achieve and grow
