Job Details
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this position is responsible for preparing the day-to-day corporate accounting functions from general ledger, journal entries to financial statement analysis and reporting. The Senior Accountant will play an important role on the Team supporting the company’s growth by working closely with Finance, Development, Facilities, and our outsourced accounting provider team to ensure accurate accounting, recording and reporting of all revenue, expense and balance sheet items.
Responsibilities
Ownership of the Fixed Assets and Capitalization Expenditures, including the capitalization of spending for new restaurants
Partner with Development, Operations and Facilities to review spending and ensure proper accounting classification of capital expenditures vs. repairs and maintenance expense
Ownership of Lease Accounting to include the evaluation of contract and lease documents to ensure appropriate coding, accounting and payments
Partner with outsourced accounting provider to ensure the accurate and timely payment of all lease payments and reporting (monthly, quarterly, and annually) on all properties, including percentage rent, and the review of all rent expense to ensure consistency with GAAP requirements
Calculate and report monthly store-level bonuses
Review weekly cash, credit card and third-party provider deposit reports and follow-up on exceptions
Analyze financial statements for discrepancies and other issues that should be brought to the Controller’s attention
Trouble-shoot issues related to restaurant-level financial schedules with Operations (General Manager, Director of Operations, and Chief Operations Officer)
Prepare journal entries for various accruals, corrections, and reclassification
Prepare and review monthly and quarterly account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance
Provide support for internal and external audits to ensure compliance
Perform other essential duties and various special projects as needed
Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, etc.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required – CPA preferred
3+ years progressively responsible experience in accounting
Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, including advanced proficiency in Excel
Strong knowledge and understanding of GAAP, accrual basis accounting and financial reporting
Embrace and drive change with proven ability to develop, drive and implement process improvements
Passionate and determined personality with a desire to grow with the company
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing in order to meet deadlines
Strong team player and ability to work effectively as a team member in resolving problems
Experience In Restaurant And/or Multi-unit Retail Company a Plus
