SoCalGas: Financial Performance Manager

Primary PurposeResponsible for managing the evaluation and assessment of the financial controls and financial reporting processes across specific business units, programs, and projects, driving implementation of financial best practices, and implementation of processes to support the strategic goals and business objectives of the Company.

Responsible for validating the proper tracking and recording of $100+ million of dollars in major programs and/or project costs, validating the proper allocation and tracking of those costs, and mitigating the regulatory risk associated with the recovery of those costs.

Support successful cost recovery outcome for future regulatory filings.

In alignment with corporate accounting policies, reviews significant contracts, agreements and business issues to determine and communicate accounting considerations.

Provides technical accounting support for complex, non-routine transactions.

Monitors, interprets and analyzes rule making activities, identifying pronouncements that may have an impact on programs/projects and oversees/assists in the implementation of these new accounting pronouncements.Duties and ResponsibilitiesWorks directly with program and project business managers, directors and senior executives to manage company-wide implementation of financial best practices to mitigate regulatory, recovery risk and support the strategic goals and business objectives of the Company.

Supports senior management and divisional management through analysis of financial impact of major issues and programs.Manages divisional cost planning and analysis and directs the development and coordination of the resource allocation process at the division including modifying and/or improving the process as business needs change.

Oversees and produce regular reports, coordinates with business units and project managers to review financial reports.

Directs the development, monitoring, and reporting of business unit financial plans and supports the company’s and division’s strategic decision-making and performance measurement activities and reporting.Manages Financial Performance staff to evaluate and assess financial, cost and budgetary record-keeping practices across program and project teams and manage development and implementation of standardized financial cost management tools, invoicing and contract management.

Contracts may include operational contractor activities.

Contractor or consultant estimates can include work such as engineering studies.Monitors project cash flows, assists with risk monitoring, and develops and publish standardized reports to support the strategic goals and business objectives of the Company.Lead collaborative cross-functional team meetings and training sessions.Present findings and recommendations to management and other work groups and business units.Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).QualificationsEducationBachelor’s Degree Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or similar discipline.

RequiredMaster’s Degree MBA PreferredExperience10+ years of related experience.

RequiredSkills and AbilitiesMust possess comprehensive writing skills; strong oral communications and the ability to articulate complex financial issues.

AdvancedStrong understanding of company financial policies and procedures for budgeting and project approvals.

AdvancedMust have an extensive knowledge of regulations and interpretations set by regulatory agencies, and utility operations and financial planning systems.

AdvancedJudgment and extensive analytical ability are required in approving the financial/business plan, budget and evaluating major business issues.
