Senior Consultant, Valuation Financial Services | Corporate Finance & Restructuring

About the Role

In FTI Consulting’s Corporate Finance & Restructuring organization, we focus on our clients’ strategic, operational, financial and capital needs by addressing the full spectrum of financial and transactional challenges faced by corporations, boards, private equity sponsors, creditor constituencies and other stakeholders.

Within the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment, Valuation and Financial Advisory Services (VFAS) is a fast-growing practice focused on providing business valuations, financial opinions, financial and strategic analysis, forecasting and transaction support services covering a broad spectrum of industries and situations. Our clients range from early stage to Fortune 500 companies, as well as capital market constituents globally. A Consultant will be directly responsible for day-to-day project management and the preparation of underlying analytical support across multiple projects simultaneously.

What You’ll Do

  • The Senior Consultant will participate in complex business valuation engagements for M&A advisory (including sell and buy side advisory support and fairness & solvency opinions) and financial restructuring purposes; as an expert witness for forensic and litigation disputes and arbitration support; for financial reporting purposes and for regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct business-level enterprise and equity valuation engagements, including the utilization of the income approach, market approach and cost approach.
  • Assist in reviewing valuation models prepared by management of private equity firms and hedge funds and attend valuation due diligence meetings with clients and auditors.
  • Identify potential guideline public companies and perform research to identify guideline M&A transactions, evaluate market multiples such as EV/EBITDA, calculate WACC (weighted average cost of capital), and assess cash flow projections.
  • Prepare analyses of historical and pro forma financial information for businesses and assets in order to assess trends and fluctuations that may impact cash flow requirements and deal valuation.
  • Perform industry and company research utilizing online tools and publicly available information, assist in preparing reports and schedules that will be delivered to clients and other parties.
  • Draft detailed narrative reports that summarize and document the procedures performed, and methodologies relied on, to conduct various valuation analyses for M&A advisory projects, restructuring engagements, as an expert witness, for financial reporting purposes, etc.
  • Create intangible asset valuations for financial reporting purposes.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance and/or Accounting and/or Liberal Arts (3.0 GPA with demonstrated quantitative course work is preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience within assurance/audit or similar function in a Big 4 or national accounting firm; preferably in a Valuation Advisory Practice.
  • Technical accounting or business valuation skills, with a detailed knowledge of fair value GAAP and SEC requirements.
  • Experience working with balance sheets and financial statements
  • Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proficient use of computer models and development of dynamic spreadsheet and modeling applications.
  • High aptitude for quantitative and qualitative analysis; with the ability to link business strategy to performance and due diligence findings.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; including business/client report writing experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%, as needed.
  • Travel required to clients and to FTI office(s).
