Senior Accountant responsibilities:
- Ensuring transactions are properly recorded in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
- Enacting, monitoring and enhancing month end checklists and workflows to ensure month-end close procedures and reviews are executed in a timely and effective manner
- Ensuring balance sheet and other account reconciliations are properly performed and reviewed with reconciling items clearly explained and supported
- Acquiring and demonstrating familiarity with the structure, composition and detail of trial balance accounts and how they are reported in the consolidated financial statements
- Understanding relevant financial reporting risks and adapting month-end close procedures as needed to mitigate risk and maintain a high level of control
- Teaming with cross-functional partners to proactively communicate and resolve significant, unusual or non-recurring accounting matters to manage risk appropriately
- Becoming a subject matter expert over assigned areas within inventory, accrued liabilities and reserves subject to estimates and assumptions within the balance sheet and P&L, including an awareness of end-to-end processes beyond the scope of the role
- Monitoring the execution of monthly and quarterly internal controls relevant to the role to ensure ongoing compliance with established controls, policies and procedures
- Assist external auditors, as needed, with audit requests, helping to resolve auditor inquiries and assisting in the resolution of audit findings
- Identifying inefficiencies in existing processes that lead to variances on the balance sheet, including inventory, and recommending improvements to existing processes to reduce variances
Minimum requirements of the Senior Accountant:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 4+ years of relevant and progressive accounting experience
- Proficiency with SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, Microsoft Dynamics AX or similar accounting systems
- System savvy and proficient in Excel
