Research Associate II – Biobank and Translational Research Core

Share Requisition # HRC0361223The Biobank and Translational Research Core provides high quality biospecimens and provides researchers with instrumentation, expertise, and flexible methodology for high-throughput analysis of biospecimens and to expediently translate laboratory discoveries into patient care.Working under direct supervision, the Research Associate II performs routine and increasingly complex laboratory tasks and procedures and develops technical expertise in one or more areas relevant to research projects.

The Research Associate II will participate in research activities involving all aspects of the research process, to include, but not limited to; investigation, technical, testing/validation of results, and report findings.

The Associate will perform a variety of routine experimental protocols and procedures to support the objectives of laboratory research projects.

The Associate will observe and comply with safety standards and procedures, assist in preparation of data for publication and/or presentation at scholarly meetings, and assist in general laboratory maintenance.

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.To learn more about the Research Core please follow link: https://www.cedars-sinai.org/research/cores/biobank-translational.htmlIn addition the Research Associate II will be responsible for:* Orients research laboratory assistants or lower level research associates and undergraduate student researchers on day-to-day lab operations and routine procedures.* Works closely with the Biobank Director, Supervisor and BTRC leadership in implementing and maintaining biospecimen procurement, processing and storage efforts within the Biobank and Translational Research Core (BTRC).* Works to develop new protocols for collections and processing and implements and QCs new and established protocols.* Is an integral member of the Biobank team responsible for collecting, processing, annotating and storing biospecimens for biomedical research.* Is responsible for working with the Biobank team in developing the daily/weekly schedule for collections, processing and deaccessioning of biospecimens.* When required, trains new tissue collection team members and monitors their proficiency.* Job duties include working with the Biobank team on QC of biospecimens (specimen preservation) and for QC of annotations (effective LIMS annotations).* Reviews and updates all biobanking SOPs.* Works effectively with new and legacy LIMS systems within the Biobank and keeps electronic notes on all biobanking activities.* Works with the Biobank team to ensure that regulatory issues, including consent and IRB, are current and effective.* Works with the Biobank team on best practices in modern Biobanking, and on tasks necessary for CAP/CLIA accreditation of the Biobank.* Assists with proper storage of biospecimens, and with storage unit maintenance and monitoring, both physical and electronic.* Assists with research pathology and image analysis/microscopy and other laboratory tasks as and when needed.* Assists with administrative tasks as and when needed under direction of Biobank leadership.* Performs a variety of increasingly complex experimental protocols and procedures and assist in the design of new complex or unusual protocols and techniques.* Keeps accurate and detailed records of experiments and results and assists in identifying and troubleshooting of unexpected results.* Orders laboratory supplies and supports laboratory operations.* Maintains lab equipment and related records and may coordinate use of lab equipment.* Assists in the operation of specialized equipment, as required by the area of research.* Assists in preparation of data for publication and/or presentation at scholarly meetings.* Observes and complies with safety standards and procedures.Education:* Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree in biological sciences.Experience:* 1-2+ years in biobanking/tissue procurement, strongly preferred* Two (2) years of laboratory experience, required Understanding of general research objectives.* Familiar with routine laboratory procedures, experimental protocols, and overall lab organization.* Applicant must be highly motivated and able to work independently.* Must have superior interpersonal, communication and organization skills and the ability to work across company disciplines and functional units, and computer application experience.* Must possess computer skills to include, but not limited to, Excel and Word.* Ability to simultaneously manage multiple clerical trials, and attention to details* Working Title: Research Associate II
