Manager, Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting (Location Flexible; Remote)

Job Summary Abt Associates seeks a qualified Manager, Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting to support the Accounting and Finance team.

The Manager, Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting plays a leadership role in financial reporting, research on and implementation of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the preparation and review of complex accounting schedules.

The Team Lead
– Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting will also be responsible for training other team members on new GAAP standards and ensuring the team prepares for their implementation, in addition to 2 direct reports.

This role is open to remote candidates or can sit in any one of our offices including Cambridge, MA, Rockville, MD, Durham, NC, and Atlanta, GA.

Key Roles and Responsibilities: Responsible for the proper application of GAAP Reviews company financial statements for the proper and consistent application of GAAP Researches and documents the proper application of GAAP to specific Company transactions as necessary Responsible for managing the annual financial statement audit process Conduct analytical reviews of specific accounting areas such as revenue recognition and coordinate with teams outside of the accounting group to implement process changes to enhance downstream reporting Reviews newly issued accounting principles for applicability to the Company Recommends appropriate timeline and methodology for implementation Trains fellow team members and subsidiary staff Oversees implementation of new guidance Oversees the preparation and review of complex account reconciliations and analyses, including preparation of accounts for year end audit Ensures that such reconciliations are timely, complete, accurate, compliant with GAAP and professionally presented Ensures that reconciling items are identified, researched and resolved in a timely manner Evaluates the need for additional account analyses Recommends enhancements to general accounting activities in conformity with best practices to ensure the most effective and efficient operations and compliance with laws, regulations and Company policies Ensures the appropriate application of technology to accounting, financial reporting and internal control processes to ensure the most efficient and effective processes Assists with building and maintaining the Accounting Departments procedures library Performs other work-related duties as assigned Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Accounting CPA required Related experience with increasing level of responsibility and demonstrated leadership skills Demonstrated audit experience in a large public accounting firm Experience in the Government Contracting industry preferred In-depth knowledge of and ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles and concepts Strong communication skills and ability to reach out into the organization Superior computer skills with a particular expertise in Excel Strong presence and superior communication and presentation skills Excellent research, analytical and problem-solving skills Must be a critical thinker and problem solver able to question what is and recommend what should be Career minded, team player with a strong work ethic and the ability to lead Minimum Qualifications The team is open to hiring at the Lead level or the Manager level.

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $79,000 to $127,000 for a Lead, and $91,000 to $146,000 for a Manager, and may vary by ten percent depending on candidate geographic location.

Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
