POSITION SUMMARY:

The Grants Accountant is a nonexempt position and responsible for preparing monthly grant/contract billings to federal, non-federal and private grantors and ensures proper compliance with all GAAP, federal, OMB and CFR, grant/contract standards, and guidelines. Assist in payroll processing and payroll journals. Assist in disbursements and account analysis. Must be able to work with Grant Manager as the liaison for accounting to ensure all grant expenditures are in line with program outcomes. Must be able to work independently and exercise considerable discretionary decision-making as it pertains to preparing necessary journal entries. The position is responsible for maintaining confidential information and safeguarding the integrity of CHC’s financial data and data systems and prepares all accounting records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Financial Accounting Standard Board (FASB). The Grant Accountant, Junior will report directly to the CFO. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  •  Review grant coding on expenditures to ensure compliance, prepare monthly grant & contract billings. Prepare journal entries and reconcile grants invoices with general ledger.
  •  Ensure proper use of account numbers/codes and train program staff on proper coding and allocation process.
  •  Review employee maintenance, electronic timecards allocation, signatures and approvals. Process bi-weekly payroll as assigned. Prepare payroll journal entries as assigned.
  •  Assist Accounts Payable staff as assigned and account analysis.
  •  Reconcile general ledger accounts as assigned.
  •  Review and process monthly reports from the accounting system and payroll reports.
  •  Assist with fiscal and single audit. Assist in various administrative services’ task as assigned.
  •  Maintains accounting records in the area of responsibility and retains records in accordance with the agency’s retention policy.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  •  BS/BA in accounting or its equivalent experience.
  •  At least 2 years’ experience working in a fast-paced environment
  •  Must have at least 2 years of grants accounting experience
  •  Knowledge of varying grant funding guidelines and regulations preferred
  •  Firm foundation in accounting principles and financial reporting standards, including GAAP, OMB circular A-122 & A133, and 2CFR200
  •  Should be flexible, comfortable working with competing guidelines and able to manage several activities simultaneously without being distracted.
  •  Excellent organization skills and attention to details
  •  Excellent problem solving skills.
  •  In-depth experience with financial software applications, databases and spreadsheets (packages including Microsoft Office-Excel, Lawson, Payroll (Paylocity).

TRANSPORTATION: Must have a valid CA Driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a good driving record.

WORKING SCHEDULE: Must be available to work 8.30 am – 5.30pm. At least 40 hours a week, nonexempt status. Some after-hours work if necessary is required as a condition of employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds on an occasional basis and sit at an assigned computer workstation for prolonged periods of time with occasional bending to perform other essential functions such as filing and storing documents or assisting with purchasing and replenishing department supplies as required.

EQUIPMENTS USE: Computers, calculators, fax machines, telephone and other equipment required.
