Financial Analyst – Merchandising & Supply Chain

POSITION SUMMARY: The Financial Analyst-Merchandising & Supply Chain reports to the Controller of M & S and will report on department sales and gross margin, KPI research & metrics and cost compliance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Complex financial modeling/development/improvement/maintenance.

Monitor and analyze key financial metrics and business drivers.

Drive specific areas of the budget process with other departments.

Prepare weekly reports which are used in weekly Senior Team meetings.

Analyze Budget/Forecast variances to Actual and review with management team.

Provide ad hoc analysis for business support.

Proactively finds opportunities to improve profit.

Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.

Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Tracks and reports on accuracy of pricing and margin components.

Provides margin impact analysis, forecasts, breakeven analysis, remodels or relocations and operations analysis.

May serve on ad hoc teams and/or committees to provide analysis and professional insight on key price, product and customer interactions.

Performs revenue and expense variance analysis, comparing actual financial performance to plan.

Investigates key performance indicator such as sales trends, store results, productivity and gross margin trends.

Ad Hoc reporting and analysis as questions and priorities arise from the business.

Position requires a self-starter who is flexible and can achieve an objective with little supervision.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; with a minimum of 2
– 5 years prior pricing/sales/marketing/financial experience.

Must have knowledge of retail sales environment.

Personal computer skills including the MS Office programs; Excel, Power Point and Word and the ability to apply these skills to essential duties and responsibilities is required.

Must have excellent PC skills particularly in presentation packages and spreadsheet skills including graphing/analysis and prior experience working with reporting applications.

Ability to work with various departments.

Highly proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word and Outlook).

Highly effective written and verbal communication skills (Bilingual: English/Spanish preferred).

Strong analytical and conceptual skills.

Strong retail math skills.

Detail oriented.

Knowledge of planning systems desirable, Category Analyzer.

Associate degree (AA) preferred.
