Summary

The Accountant will be responsible for various general accounting operations including general ledger reconciliations, month-end closing entries, preparation of state and local tax filings, benefits and payroll reconciliations, year-end audit preparation, and the support of financial reporting activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Prepares monthly G/L account reconciliations in compliance with GAAP
Analyzes account activity, understands company trends, and detects issues and errors
Prepares sales and use, property, business license, and other state and local tax returns.

Performs tax research as needed
Processes, reconciles, and records employee benefits related transactions
Record payroll activity
Compiles and analyzes financial information, special projects as assigned.
Identify and suggest ways to improve department efficiency and accuracy
Assists with financial and tax audits
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Accounting/Finance
Minimum 3 years of accounting experience
CPA certification is highly desirable
Institutional investment research and broker-dealer industry experience a plus
Excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts
Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
Hands-on experience with accounting software packages
Strong MS Excel skills including VLOOKUP’s and pivot tables
Accuracy and attention to detail

Working Conditions

Must be able to perform the essential job duties.

Work is performed primarily in an office environment.

Typically requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time (66%+ each work day), ability to hear the telephone, ability to enter data on a computer and may also require the ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
