LAFC is invested in the world’s game and Los Angeles, constructing, and developing the 22,000 seat Banc of California Stadium and a top-flight training center on the campus of Cal-State Los Angeles.POSITION SUMMARY:We are looking for an experienced finance and accounting leader to evolve current systems, processes, and procedures to create a highly efficient, effective, transparent, and accurate financial accounting department capable of partnering across business lines and supporting future growth.

The Controller is a key leader who is involved in all aspects of the Club’s financial management including corporate accounting, financial reporting, and the further development of internal controls and procedures.

This role will spearhead all GAAP reporting, audits, and League reporting.ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:Evaluate and set processes and procedures for monthly/quarterly forecast, corporate planning, and budgeting process.Ensure month and year-end general ledger is accurate and closed in a timely manner in compliance with US GAAP.Direct and monitor all aspects of accounting operations including general ledger, receivables, payables, payroll, fixed assets, and financial reporting.Ensure performance of accounts payable and accounts receivable process by establishing critical KPI measurements that enforces accountability and initiates corrective actions.

Manage, train, and motivate the accounting team in addition to delegating department tasks.Prepare and present monthly and year-end financial statements, including variance analysis.Optimize, develop, document, and maintain financial controls through sound systems, policies, and proceduresBuild and maintain a strong relationship with the MLS Office to ensure complete financial compliance with all League requirements.Oversee compliance and timely/accurate filing with all federal, state, and local taxes.Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants and quarterly lender reporting.Serve as the key driver of the annual audit process by partnering with internal team members to aggregate and properly report all financials.Manage the audit and tax preparer relationship and undertake tax strategy studies as applicable.Manage the tracking of property taxes and oversee tax appeals when necessary.Assess and develop internal controls around cash disbursements and daily cash monitoring.Assist in leading the implementation and transition of a new company-wide ERP system.Provide support across all business units as it relates to financial reporting and analysis.Other duties as assigned by Management.QUALIFICATIONS:The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.Degree from an accredited College/University in Finance or Accounting required.Masters degree, CPA, and/or Public Accounting experience strongly preferred.Minimum of 7+ years’ experience as a Director of Accounting or Junior Controller required, within professional sports or venue management preferred.3+ years’ experience managing team and department.

Thorough understanding and experience in the application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

Proven experience creating and modeling financial statements and analysis.Experience with ERP conversion and Sage Intacct preferred.Detail oriented with excellent performance and time management skills.Ability to multitask, operate effectively, and make sound decisions in a dynamic working environment with frequent changes and tight deadlines.Exceptional communication skills with the ability to correspond effectively and efficiently both verbally and written.Must be reliable, trustworthy, and able to maintain professionalism and high confidentiality.Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).Flexible schedule with the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required by financial deadlines.LAFC participates in the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) program.
