LA’s BEST Afterschool Enrichment Program
Reports to: President & CEO
Supervises: Finance Associate and Administrative Assistant
Position Summary:
The Controller reports directly to the CEO and is responsible for the overall fiscal compliance of the organization.
The Controller also guides the CEO in making financial and administrative decisions to improve the organization’s overall financial health.
The Controller’s activities include:
Maintain the organization’s accounting records
Coordinate with external auditors to ensure the Organization is in compliance with GAAP and the terms and conditions of the Government Grants
Design implement and monitor internal control policies and procedures to safeguard the organization’s assets
Manage the overall budget and finances of the organization
Report and explain financials to management and the board
Review incoming grant agreements and contracts
Track and manage expenditures against grants in compliance with partners’ reporting requirements
Ensure proper insurance coverage for various grant opportunities
Meet weekly with Development leadership to review incoming contributions and their terms
Prepare financial reports/invoices to grantors and funders
Oversee the operations of the finance and administrative department
Provide support to Operations Directors in managing program budgets
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration
Minimum of 5 years experience in public accounting
Experience in non-profit finance or audit is required
Possession of a Certified Public Accountant license

25,000 unique and talented elementary school students in neighborhoods with the highest needs and fewest resources.
Through our deliberately developed programming and staff, we build the kind of deep intellectual, creative, physical and social engagement in children that drives their development as motivated learners and active contributors to their education, schools and communities.
Due to the global coronavirus pandemic, we are currently unable to serve youth in afterschool the way we usually do, LA’s BEST’s commitment to the children of Los Angeles remains the same.
We are using this time as an opportunity to support and strengthen our staff, provide essential services to our communities and engage students virtually and as schools reopen.
