Clinical Research Finance Coordinator

Job Summary:

The clinical research finance coordinator will maintain in-depth understanding of the business drivers and organizational strategic directions pertaining to clinical research at LACN. S/he will interact with principal investigators, subjects, clinic and research staff, laboratory staff, medical professionals, pharmaceutical staff, and Sponsor representatives to successfully oversee the research financial aspects. S/he will be highly motivated, creative and offer innovative solutions to streamline processes involving financial management of clinical trials. S/he will be responsible for coordinating and executing the financial billing of clinical trials, formation of the Medicare Coverage Analysis grid, and the development of clinical trial budgets. S/he works with other departments to ensure compliance with sponsor regulations, streamline workflows, and improve processes to improve efficiencies while maintaining an atmosphere that fosters the research mission of the organization. The position will report to the Director, Clinical Research.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Reviews/evaluates research protocols to assess resource needs; assessment includes all research procedures, clinical research staff time, investigator time, and costs from ancillary departments.
  • Responsibilities include reviewing contract budgets, study calendars and posting expenses to clinical trials. Provide accurate and timely financial status reports to the study teams, PIs and Research Director.
  • Process timely invoices which follow protocol driven procedures according to patient accruals/visits in order to seek reimbursement from sponsors. Resolve account balance discrepancies.
  • Routinely monitors and reconciles trial accounts to ensure timely deposit, correct allocation, and distribution of revenue.
  • Routinely provide monthly, quarterly and yearly summary reports to the PIs, Research Director, Central Business Office and Senior Leadership.
  • Designs, develops, and implements management reports that provide concise and accurate financial status assessments at various levels of detail.
  • Responsible for identifying key performance indicators of clinical trial financial functions, performing variance analyses and generating monthly performance reports.
  • Assist with interpretation of policies and procedures, both sponsor and Institutional, as they relate to compliance with laws, Medicare Coverage Analysis, National Coverage Decision, statutes and regulations dealing with clinical trial billing issues.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures in the various areas of post award financial administration of clinical research.
  • Responds timely, effectively and appropriately to deliverables.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Three (3) years of related experience, education/training, OR a bachelor’s degree in related area plus two (2) years of related experience/training.
  • Relevant research and/or project management experience in healthcare and/or finance. Experience working with Clinical Studies and Trials, highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic financial management principles and the ability to analyze financial and budgetary data.
  • Recent experience in finance with working knowledge of financial terminology, highly preferred.
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex problems, both independently and collaboratively, in fast-paced, data-driven environments.
  • Effective and efficient communication skills, to individuals of varying levels, background, and expertise level via written, verbal, and listening skills.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple competing priorities and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel and Outlook.
