Clinical Laboratory Scientist – Blood Bank

ResponsibilitiesThe Blood Bank is seeking to hire a Clinical Laboratory Scientist for the overnight shift (i.e.

graveyard).

Primary duties include: Patient transfusion testing and immunology problem work-ups Computer data entry and retrieval Quality control testing, quality assurance activities, and donor quality assurance Provide transfusion support for patients of UCLA Medical Center, including trauma and transplant patients Record and review test results for accuracy and completeness; maintain lab records Assist patients with inquiries regarding test resultsNote: shift/work days will rotate as follows:First week: Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, ThursdaySecond week: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, SaturdayQualifications Must have a current, valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license Two years of recent clinical laboratory experience in a Blood Bank, preferred Experience with MTS gel methodology and solid phase testing, preferred Ability to accurately record and collate lab data, and to draw appropriate conclusions Must have manual dexterity to perform procedures and maintain instruments, such as pipettes Effective listening skills Ability to perform multiple tasks under conditions of frequent interruptions, distractions, and heavy workload Ability to work in an environment with variations in temperature and instrument noise Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationshipsUCLA is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
