The CFO will possess: A record of demonstrated success in building and managing a high-performance finance function, with proven experience meeting the demands of early-stage and publicly traded life science organizations Experience as both a strategic thought leader to help drive corporate initiatives and a willingness and ability to switch to hands on leader as necessary The ability to rapidly integrate into an organization, build relationships with key constituencies (CEO, management, board, investors and any existing finance team members), evaluate business processes / functions and make necessary changes Independent and strategic leadership skills with strong focus on business growth Key Responsibilities & Duties Danforth CFOs are deployed on a part-time basis for early-stage life science companies, including venture backed, near public, and publicly traded entities. Typically, CFOs balance the demands of 2 to 3 clients at a time, depending on their desired workload. Responsibilities will vary depending on the client and may include: Act as a business partner to the leadership team; assess organizational performance and financial performance against the annual budget, prior year results and the company’s long-term strategy Develop and implement tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information and make actionable recommendations to leadership team and board on both strategy and operations Board, Audit, Compensation, and Corporate Governance committee meeting preparation, support and attendance Oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with the company’s strategic plans IPO readiness including leading preparation of public company filings, investor relations support and long-range planning Stock option plan management and capitalization table management Oversee the finance and accounting functions, information systems and administration; develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting Participate in supplier contract negotiation and cost reduction planning Represent the company to business partners, analysts, investors, including financial institutions and auditors Support or lead capital raising, M&A and/or corporate partnering activities to enable the company to meet growth objectives Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures for the company Skills & Specifications: Public company CFO experience within the life sciences (biotech/pharma/med device) Strong experience in all stages of growth with specific expertise in leading the preparation for and process of an IPO.
