Center for Policing Equity: Staff Accountant

Location: Los Angeles, CAAbout the Center for Policing Equity The Center for Policing Equity uses evidence-based approaches to social justice problems and conducts research to create levers for social, cultural, and policy change.Position Description The Center for Policing Equity (CPE) is looking for a skilled Staff Accountant with 2 to 3 years of experience with an unwavering passion for social justice issues.

This position will report to the Vice President of Finance & Development and works in a collaborative effort with our external accounting partner.

The Staff Accountant will oversee the day-to-day financial operating and bookkeeping tasks.

This position requires a high degree of independent decision-making and accountability.

Under the supervision and in conjunction with the Vice President of Finance & Development, the Staff Accountant will ensure CPE and its staff are in compliance with internal fiscal policies and state & federal regulations, including working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

CPE has approximately 40 staff and operates on a $8M annual budget.Key ResponsibilitiesReconcile general ledger accounts by gathering and balancing informationProcess payrollProcess project related account payablesAssist in month-end closing processesEnsure internal accounting KPIs are metAssist in budget review of individual grants and prepare budget revisions when neededGenerate year to date budget comparisons, and forecast utilization of budgeted fundsMaintain QBO fund accounting of appropriate expenses for each grant to invoiceEnsure supporting documentation is available and prepare reimbursement requests to funders including QBO reports to support the reimbursement requestEnter receivables and income in QBO and track and enter paymentsEnsure internal controls and appropriate authorizations/signatures are in place for all accounting tasks and that fund accounting and approved cost allocation methods are used among grantsQualificationsStrong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and best practicesFamiliarity with non-profit structures, practices and organizational culturesExcellent soft-skills for working amongst the accounting and development teamsProven ability to work independently and as a self-starterMust be able to work in a fast-paced environmentHigh attention to detail and ability to prioritize the completion of multiple projects assigned simultaneouslyExcellent verbal and written communication skills for internal and external stakeholder interactionsRequirements Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance2 to 3 years experience with QuickBooks OnlineProficient use of Google Suite and Microsoft ExcelBenefitsMedicalDentalVisionLife InsurancePet CareGenerous VacationSick PayPaid HolidaysApplication Submission GuidelinesApplications will be considered on a rolling basis.
