Assistant Controller, Operations & Corporate Accounting

KARL STORZ is currently recruiting an Assistant Controller who will be responsible for overseeing the activities of the Operations & Corporate Accounting departments for accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to financial statements, operational reports, and annual audits. In addition, this role will be responsible for overseeing and processing the close for KARL STORZ Endoscopy-America (KSEA). The Assistant Controller will lead and manage two Senior Accounting Managers and indirectly their staff.

This position will be based in our El Segundo, CA location and work a hybrid schedule with a minimum of 2 in office days per week.

Responsibilities

Oversee Operations & Corporate Accounting Teams:

  • Oversee the activities of the Operations & Corporate Accounting departments for accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to financial statements, operational reports, and annual audits.
  • Manage department deliverables and accounting team members (team performance, ensure deliverable accuracy and timely completion, accountability)
  • Perform variance analysis of balance sheet and income statement and other various statistical analysis.
  • Identify business drivers.
  • Make recommendation to business partners on how to improve performance.
  • Review account reconciliations and proactively address potential risks for the company.
  • Own Operations & Corporate accounting processes/ procedures and amend them as business evolve.
  • Own finance master data maintenance in SAP (GL accounts, cost centers, profit centers, etc….)
  • Lead, develop, train and coach Operations & Corporate accounting teams.
  • Identify and drive process improvements for the Operations & Corporate accounting team.
  • Coordinate and facilitate adoption of new accounting guidance.

Lead cross functional process improvement and transformation projects:

  • Built solid understanding of business partner processes impacting the financials.
  • Foster relationship with business partners leaders
  • Design data analytics tools to help driving the business performance and process improvement conversations (Sales, PPV, warranty, etc)
  • Identify operational efficiency opportunities impacting business partners and drive process improvement.
  • Lead and influence transformation projects (local, regional, and global)

Risk Management:

  • Proactively identify financial risks for the company (sales, profitability, inventory, fixed assets, etc..) and make recommendation to management on how to mitigate them.
  • Safeguard company assets

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business
  • 10+ years of experience is required with at least 4 years in a leadership role.
  • Solid knowledge of US GAAP
  • Proven ability to work with SAP (FI-CO, SD, MM, BI, Hana)
  • Advanced Excel (V-lookups, pivot tables, data tables), PowerPivot is a plus.
  • Experience in internal control and segregation of duties management
  • Strong analytical skills (ability of analyze large operational and financial data sets, design visualization models to drive the decision making, identify and drive process improvements from data analytics)
  • Strong team leadership skills and the ability develop a solid organization (lead, develop and coach)
  • Create, nurture, and leverage a network of influencers and stakeholders throughout the KSEA and regional/ global organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong executive management presentation skills
  • Strong work ethic
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills (ability to manage team deliverables and cross functional projects in parallel)
