Position Summary:

The Accounting Supervisor will oversee and perform the organization’s payroll functions, ensuring that pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulation. In addition, the Accounting Supervisor will oversee accounts payable, direct the processing of invoices and payments, manage various general ledger accounts, participate in month-end close process, support the Director of Finance as well as provide various support as needed across CME.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Oversees procedures, policies and processes and manages inquiries and requests related to preparation and distribution of payroll.
  • Processes payroll transactions in conjunction with Human Resources including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and all other deductions.
  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage & hour laws, and best practices.
  • Develops guidelines for proper handling and coding of invoices to maintain accuracy of general ledger expense accounts and asset/prepaid additions.
  • Supervises Accounts Payable team member(s) to ensure consistent reporting and timely payment to vendors.
  • Analyzes expense reports and other invoices for accuracy and eligibility for payment.
  • Verifies payments before the Director of Finance/CFO’s approval is added by reviewing bank batches and bill payments.
  • Reconciles accounts payable total and general ledger with other applicable records.
  • Ensures employer identification numbers or social security numbers have been collected from all vendors for the Accounts Payable team to prepare and submit 1099s.
  • Maintains adequate internal controls within the accounting processes to ensure well-documented, accurate and timely reporting.
  • Prepares records and appropriate entries for various ledgers including cash disbursements, cash receipts, accounts payable, month-end payroll summary and related accruals.
  • Prepares balance sheet reconciliations and necessary adjusting journal entries.
  • Ensures proper recordkeeping of purchases for use in tax preparation and periodic audits.
  • Ensures proper maintenance, filing, and storage of records in case of audits.
  • Performs other duties and assignments as requested by the Director of Finance.

  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Thorough understanding of accounts payable functions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or similar emphasis with at least four years of experience; OR at least six years of accounting experience with at least two years in a managerial or supervisory capacity.
  • Four years of experience in payroll processing with two years in a supervisory or management role preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle NetSuite and/or Bill.com a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
