Accounting Specialist

Responsibilities

The Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human behavior is seeking to hire a full-time Accounting Specialist to join the Finance Department.

You will be the department’s UCPATH intiator for all non-contracts and grants funding changes.

Primary duties include:
Process, monitor, and maintain UCPATH changes and adjustments for chart filed strings and the departments UCPATH suspense account
Provide support to our large Gift portfolio (>600 active gifts)
Process payroll transfers
Process expense distributions on a monthly basis
Provide administrative support in managing and facilitating Semel’s application process and policy compliance
Provide support in the budget process for 19900 funds
Assist in auditing of donation deposits
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business-related major (preferred)
Demonstrate knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and their practical applications in accounting
Demonstrate knowledge of UCLA accounting policies, procedures, ledgers and forms for both revenue and expenditure cycles (preferred)
Demonstrate skills in processing and preparing UCLA forms including, but not limited to, Transfer of Funds, Financial Journal, Purchase Requisition, Department Deposit Record, Departmental Repair Authorization, Travel Expense Voucher, Check Request, Limited Value Order, Interdepartmental Recharge Request (preferred)
Demonstrate skills in reviewing forms for compliance with UCLA policies and procedures including, but not limited to, the areas of entertainment, foreign travel per diem, purchasing, memberships (preferred)
Demonstrate skills in reconciliation of UCLA general and subsidiary ledgers (preferred)
Demonstrate proficiency using a PC in a DOS, Windows and Network environment
Demonstrate strong skills in using Microsoft Excel to create financial worksheets, maintain database files, prepare reports, and perform file linkage
Demonstrate skills in processing, matching, auditing vendor invoices for payment
Demonstrate skills in using Word for Windows to write correspondence and reports
Ability to interpret, analyze and evaluate financial information
