Seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial accountant for our profitable and growing e-commerce business. Reporting to the COO/CFO, the Accountant will ensure adequate financial systems are in place to support Skylight’s exponential growth and if successful, will become our Controller.
The Role
You will own all aspects of our finances from financial reporting and analysis to maintaining our books and records. Responsibilities include producing timely, accurate financial records, and preparing periodic reconciliations and analysis to support the company’s decisions. You will also monitor cash flow, assist in our debt financings, and assist the executive team in setting financial policies.
The Responsibilities
- Overseeing all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate accounting standards.
- Monitoring cash balances and maintain an accurate cash flow forecast.
- Conducting monthly review and reconciliation of general ledger accounts, including detailed analyses of the balance sheet and P&L to ensure accurate and timely reporting. Prepare journal entries as necessary.
- FP&A—Tracking financial results, generating monthly financial and statistical reports, and preparing variance analyses.
- Maintaining or improving processes for finance and accounting.
- Developing and implementing processes to ensure timely and accurate closings of the general ledger (monthly, quarterly, annually).
- Collaborating with our critical vendors to ensure accounts payables are properly paid and accounted.
- Assisting our tax accountants to file state and federal income taxes and corresponding estimated taxes.
- Coordinating with our consultants to ensure all state and provincial sales taxes are filed and paid.
The Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- 3 years of experience as an accountant in a commercial setting, including FP&A responsibility
- 2 years of public accounting audit or tax experience
- Willingness to adapt and implement new/efficient work processes
- Experience managing inventory and COGS; consumer goods experience preferred
- Motivated self-starter requiring little supervision
- Ability to work on multiple projects successfully and meet all assigned deadlines
- Must focus on both the details and big picture
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- High degree of computer literacy
- Expert familiarity with Quickbooks Online
- Proficiency in MS Office; knowledge of Google Docs
- CPA preferred
