City Manager

The City of Palos Verdes Estates (located in Los Angeles County, California) is seeking a decisive, transformational individual to creatively problem-solve and proactively address issues that impact the community including service delivery and the overall financial management of the organization.

Reporting to the City Council, the City Manager has full responsibility for the day-to-day management of municipal operations including administration, community development activities, public works, and public safety (police and contract fire services).

The City’s current budget is approximately $20 million with 53.6 authorized FTE staff positions.

The FY21/22 CIP is $4.2 million.

The ideal candidate will keep the City Council informed in a timely and accurate manner and be responsive and transparent.

The City Council has agreed to waive the requirement for the City Manager to reside within ten miles of the City, as currently stated in the Municipal Code..

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree and municipal management experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills and knowledge.

A Master’s degree is a plus.

California experience is strongly preferred.

Candidates at the level of Assistant/Deputy City Manager or Department Head with experience in finance are strongly encouraged to apply.

Candidates having worked for an organization with its own Police Department would be ideal, as would experience with a coastal city and having worked in a unionized environment..

The City will negotiate a highly competitive salary and benefits package with the selected candidate.

Compensation may include relocation bonus, deferred compensation, and a retention/performance bonus in future years.
