Based in Los Angeles, OUTWORDS is a national archive of on-camera, professional-quality interviews with the elders of the LGBTQIA+ civil rights movement.

Since our founding in 2016, we have recorded 196 interviews in 33 states to date.

We conduct both in-person and remote interviews.

OUTWORDS is seeking an experienced, part-time assistant editor / tech coordinator to assist with a variety of post-production tasks.

This is a multi-faceted position that includes traditional assistant editorial work along with interacting with the general public, including OUTWORDS interview subjects, who are often older and may be less familiar with our technology.

This position provides the opportunity for qualified candidates to perform creative editorial work.

Editorial tasks include:
managing the shipment of camera equipment to subjects

patiently instructing elderly interview subjects how to set up camera equipment

managing the technical recording of online interviews

ingesting and backing up new interviews

exporting QT versions of interviews to YouTube for transcribing

editing video clips of interviews on Adobe Premiere

organizing media including photographs on duplicate hard drives

file management in Google Drive

data management in Air Table (will train)
updating our production manual
This position requires the capability for high-speed wifi connectivity at the employee’s place of residence, as well as secure storage of equipment.

Work will be performed primarily at the employee’s place of residence as well as on-site at the OUTWORDS offices in downtown Los Angeles.

Qualified candidates must demonstrate extraordinary organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to work independently and complete tasks on time, and the ability and desire to fully support the goals and mission of OUTWORDS.

Ideal candidates have a familiarity with and commitment to the values of the LGBTQIA+ community and movement.

At present, this position is for 10 hours per week.

Rate is $18-$20/hour commensurate with experience.

Hourly commitment may increase during the coming year.
