The Role

As the Director of Content Marketing at Jellysmack you will be responsible for setting and executing the company’s strategy for the creation, distribution and promotion of high quality and hyper-relevant editorial stories that build brand awareness, attract new partners, engage our audience, and establish our leadership authority in the thriving creator economy.

You will lead the company’s content marketing efforts and determine what stories should be written, the frequency of our publishing cadence, and help shape our brand voice across all content.

You will staff and oversee a team of freelance writers, editors, proofreaders, and social media specialists to help you bring your content vision to reality.

You will define our editorial approach to position Jellysmack as a thought leader in social media and as a transparent and supportive voice for content creators and editors worldwide.

In this role, you will serve as our “editor-in-chief” establishing and implementing the long-term vision for content at Jellysmack.

You will use data, metrics, and creative acumen to decide how, what, where, and when content should be presented to different audiences.

A successful candidate will understand the wide variety of channels through which the company can tell its story— long-form and short-form narratives, web, social media, video, print and other content—ensuring each is properly leveraged and integrated.

The content and communications delivered will be creatively and strategically implemented for maximum impact across a variety of audiences.

Outstanding writing and editing skills are a prerequisite for this position.

A deep understanding of metrics and how to apply them to a content strategy is a must.

Close coordination and alignment with the Chief Marketing Officer, VP Marketing, Director of Public Relations, Director of Global Events, Human Resources and Internal Culture teams is vital to success in this role.

The Responsibilities
Identify and articulate stories that will support the company’s priorities, raise the visibility of the organization within the creator economy, and resonate with content creators and the industry that surrounds them.
Build and oversee the content marketing and editorial department of the organization to generate high-quality, frequent articles that build awareness, engagement, brand trust, legitimacy and lead generation.
Plan, capture and articulate the on-brand stories that bring the company to life, coordinating the channels through which those stories are told, and ensuring execution at the highest level.
Oversee unique, compelling and consistent content creation for multi-channel use including uses on websites, social media, in marketing campaigns, email, blogs, and other strategic messaging tactics.
Develop an editorial calendar that organizes cross-company efforts.
Choose stories for each channel; make decisions about story length, treatment, and placement and the optimal distribution strategy for each piece.
Proactively share plans and solicit ideas from colleagues within global marketing, PR, product, events, human resources, sales, and social media teams worldwide.
Ensure SEO best practices are properly implemented.
Tailor content for target audiences and ensure overall consistency of voice and identity.
Identify and prioritize freelance assignments to ensure deadlines are met, review work for accuracy, and determine staffing needs.

Manage freelance writers, editors, and design talent as appropriate.
Coordinate and collaborate on the innovative use of social media to support and promote other forms of campaign storytelling.
Lead the development of dynamic storytelling utilizing creative writing, multimedia and graphic elements to tell the most compelling narrative.

Work with design teams to create interesting rich media content.
Develop and execute effective measurement of editorial activities with a strong understanding of measurement tools and how to interpret and apply them.
Establish and evaluate measurement metrics to assess the effectiveness of our editorial content and adjust our publishing strategy, message or posting frequency based on those results.
Supervise, train and mentor team members.
Stay informed on the latest industry techniques and best practices for storytelling, content strategy, and branding.
Establish and enforce the company’s editorial standards with an emphasis on helping content creators achieve lasting success and fueling their entrepreneurial passion.
Create efficient content creation and distribution processes to ensure timely writing and publishing of relevant articles.
Advise in the selection and implementation of publishing platforms and CMS solutions.
Leverage the company’s (owned) social media channels to promote content.
Drive the localization and translation of content for global impact.
Serve as a content writer ensuring that key executives of the company build their own brand presence on social media in an effective manner.
Create and manage corporate blogs, wikis and external newsletters.
Develop social media policies, procedures, and strategy.
Establish exceptional SEO strategy and content plans.
Requirements

The Qualifications
8+ years of experience in marketing, communications, content, publishing or other editorial roles.
Minimum of 5 years as a leader in multi-channel content creation in a technology-focused organization (preferably related to the creator economy)
Experience with content creation at a social media company or at a tech start-up is considered a plus.
Exceptional writing and/or editor skills.
Prior experience staffing and leading a team of freelancers is required.
Exceptional presentation, communication, and organizational skills.
A strategic and experienced communicator and leader with the ability to collaborate smoothly across teams and functions
Proven track record delivering content for technology-focused organizations and targeted industries.
The ability to lead and inspire a team to achieve company’s stated goals
Expertise working in and navigating content management systems.
Keen understanding of what is compelling and will “move the needle.”
Ability to write for different audiences utilizing different forms of storytelling.
Familiarity with how to use metrics to measure editorial and SEO best practices.
Strong commitment to working collaboratively with colleagues and external constituencies to advance the overall company goals.
Willingness and ability to travel for interviews and research, meetings, etc.
Comfortable working independently and managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Ability to work after hours and on weekends when appropriate.
The Technical skills
Experience with WordPress or other CMS solutions for publishing content.
Familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM/Marketing software is considered a plus.
Multimedia capabilities (photography, video, web) is considered a plus.
