We are seeking a Surgery Technician I who will prepare surgery suite for surgical procedures.
Functions as a ” Sterile” memberof the surgical team during procedures.
Responsible for providing appropriate instrumentation and supplies to the surgeon in using aseptic technique.
Participates in the daily activities of the department as an active team member.
Demonstrates proficiency in delivering care to assigned age-specific patient population (e.G., infants, adolescents, adults, geriatrics, pediatrics), and participates in related continuing education.
In this position you will: Implement and maintain established department, unit, and hospital policies, procedures, and objectives as well as improving organization performance program, patient/customer safety, environmental, and infection control policies Assist surgeons during operations limited to the surgical technologist scope of practice Maintain aseptic techniques; actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique Report breaks in technique immediately to circulator and surgeon.
Wears eye protection at all times Prepare the Operating room for cases by setting up table, instruments and supplies according to type of case Assist in maintaining correct count of instruments, sutures and sponges Report incorrect counts immediately to surgeon Open sterile supplies and sets up for procedures Assist with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies Assist in cleaning and preparing rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning Monitor and restocks supplies Provide comfort and support for pre-operative patients by demonstrating sensitivity to patient’s care and privacy Maintain a surgical ” Neutral zone” for passing of surgical sharps Identify and cares for specimens Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops Cover on-call assignments; arrives at Medical Center within 30 minutes of notification Drape patients for surgical procedures Transport patients to and from clinical, ancillary, and support department areas as directed by circulator and/or charge nurse Attend meetings as required Participate in unit/hospital quality improvement activities Qualifications: Required qualifications for this position includes: Course in surgical technology or equivalent on-the-job training BLS for Healthcare Providers sponsored by the American Heart Association NOTE: If employee/applicant has certification by the American Red Cross-CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, this will be accepted until card expiration date Related work experience Preferred qualifications for this position include: National Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) issued by the Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologist About the hospital you will serve.
