The Center is one of a handful of Federally Qualified Health Centers in the nation specializing in serving LGBTQ people.JOB SUMMARY: The Physician Assistant is responsible for the management of patient care for an assigned panel of patients of the Los Angeles LGBT Center Sexual Health Clinics (SHEP).ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1) Examines patient, documents medical history, records results, and makes preliminary diagnosis or decides on follow-up procedures;2) Administers or orders diagnostic tests, blood work, and interprets test results;3) Performs therapeutic procedures such as immunizations, injections, and managing infection;4) Exercises professional judgment regarding consultation with medical director concerning appropriate treatment;5) Develops and implements patient care plans, instructs and counsels patients and records progress;6) Prescribes medications to the extent allowable by state guidelines and clinic regulations;7) Provides health education regarding health maintenance especially in the realm of STD prevention;8) Prescreens cases requiring review by the Medical Director;9) Participates in staff meetings, planning meetings and other meetings;10) Participates in the program’s ongoing quality assurance monitoring;11) Other duties as assigned;JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:1) Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people;2) A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people;3) Current license to practice medicine within the State of California;4) Board-certified or Board eligible;5) Current BLS certification;6) Minimum of two years’ clinical experience preferred;7) Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of modern medicine related to public health services; general knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to public health;8) Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational and interpersonal skills;9) Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.The Los Angeles LGBT Center is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to fostering diversity within its staff.
