Overview:The Senior Accountant is a mid-level professional capable of fulfilling the project accounting and project forecasting requirements of multiple mid-sized projects or a singular large project, including day-to-day interface with project management, client and contractor personnel, while overseeing and developing junior level accounting staff.
The Senior Accountant will report to the Business Unit Controller, and provide support to the business unit and area office accounting department as required.Responsibilities:* Manage contracts, amendments, insurance, bonds, SOV, Files, and Co Policies* Ensure project financial forecasts are formatted and set up to meet both internal and client reporting needs during project start-up, and maintained for the balance of the contract* Prepare and manage monthly project financial forecast review meeting with Project and Area Management team, including the meeting time/location, and obtaining key reports and data necessary to conduct a productive review.
The senior project accountant should be able to lead and control the meeting in the absence of the Business Unit Controller.* Reconcile the project budget to the contract and fully executed change orders.
Ensure all documents are signed by authorized representatives.
If a control weakness is noted, address it immediately with the Business Unit Controller, area leader, and project management team.* Complete a detailed review of the general condition and if warranted adjust the estimates to complete.
The general conditions labor cost should be tied to the project staffing and overall project schedule (updated).
Regional support labor should be carried in the forecast and managed by the operations project team, and if budget overruns are estimated, the overrun rationale will be established.* Ensure requisition process is well defined and agreed upon with the client, based on contract terms and conditions, including billing format, submittal date, and payment date, etc.
A project specific payment flow chart should be created.* The trade contractors should be clearly instructed on Gilbane/Owner billing requirements, including schedule of values breakdown, waivers, stored materials, material status reports, insurance, bonding etc.
Strict adherence to formal submission requirements should be emphasized to ensure timely billing on a monthly basis.* Prior to submission to the owner, ensure accuracy and appropriateness of charges.* If necessary, establish a monthly requisition review meeting with the owner and if necessary, the lending institution.
Give the client timely responses in writing to any questions regarding charges in the requisition.* Ensure that Gilbane and the Trade contractors are paid in accordance with the contractual requirements, and Gilbane policy.* Ensure timely management of accounts receivable and payables* Proper review and approval by project management is obtained.
Monitor the progress of the monthly draws, and collaborate with project team to ensure timely approval and cost accruals for month end process.
If the accountant feels any part of the project team’s review is not completely adequate, they should question the team and/or physically review the percentage complete, materials, change order etc.* Ensure all necessary waivers, insurance, signed contracts and amendments, bonds, consent of surety etc.

Complete review of these documents should be completed to ensure compliance to Gilbane/Owner requirements.* Develop and maintain positive professional relationships both internally & externally* Review fee proposals* Assist with the development of contract abstracts* Audit responsibilities* Train and mentor AccountantsQualifications:EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION * BS degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field* 8-10 years with CM or General Contractor organization working on $15M or larger construction projects* Or equivalent combination of education and experience KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES * Excellent written and verbal communication skills* Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word* CMiC, Textura, Microstrategy and Concur knowledge preferred* Understanding of the overall project execution process, including budgeting, project forecasting, cost control, schedule, anticipated cost and project profitability Gilbane offers an excellent total compensation package which includes competitive health and welfare benefits and a generous profit-sharing/401k plan.
