People & Culture Coordinator or Manager (Los Angeles)

The mission of Zehner’s People Operations (PO) team is to build a strategic employee-centric PO program (data-driven, scalable systems, tools, and processes) to serve our cross-functional colleagues and be a competitive advantage for our organization. We are hiring for People & Culture positions to support our Southern California and Vancouver BC regional teams, guided by a commitment to optimizing our employee experience and leveraging People Operations to drive the best business outcomes for Zehner and our clients. The PO roles possess strategic vision and an operator’s tactical ability to execute, serving as project leader, collaborator and team member.

Partnered with our Leadership Team, this role will create, implement, and enhance employee-centric programs that evolve with our agency’s growth and align with our goals, values and culture. Our PO program will guide sound practices, strong culture, and timely decision-making, allowing Zehner to effectively attract, engage and support employees at all levels and stages of their professional and personal development. 

Reporting to Chief People Officer.

This position will own and support a comprehensive PO program spanning:

Team & Culture Building

  • Help cultivate a compelling team-centric culture for attracting and retaining diverse talent
  • Build effective working relationships with hiring leaders and understand their unique needs to evolve org design (new disciplines and new positions) and hiring prioritization; help craft job descriptions, as needed
  • Build diverse and inclusive sourcing/recruiting pipelines, both general and niche
  • Review candidate resumes with effective screening criteria to assess and recommend talent for positions
  • Optimize/operationalize the entire employee lifecycle: sourcing, screening, onboarding, training, development, advancement, offboarding, alumni engagement
  • Represent Zehner in professional associations and at industry events
  • Organize employees to participate in their relevant professional associations and conferences
  • Facilitate clear, consistent communication channels and strategies for Leadership Team and staff
  • Serve as a trusted partner, coach, confidante for the management team and staff
  • Evolve, execute, and champion Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) strategies in our org development
  • Produce employee engagement events to celebrate and recognize our staff 
  • Manage outside recruiters and other vendor relationships related to People Ops
  • Serve as an ambassador of our internal values and represent PO mission with integrity and authenticity

General HR 

  • Interface with ADP US and ADP Canada HR Business Partner as needed
  • Help operationalize efficient, consistent workforce management practices by leveraging HR Systems (ADP, Lattice, Parallax, JazzHR, etc)
  • Manage People-related policies and compliance with meet local, state, federal governing laws
  • Document/execute hiring fulltime and freelance, onboarding, feedback, PIPs and, terminations
  • Develop/update market benchmarks to band consistent pay tiers across delivery departments
  • Help update plans and policies to stay current with laws, trends and competitors
  • Evolve employee reward and recognition programs to ensure ongoing alignment with market and organizational growth
  • Work with Finance and ADP to ensure employees are informed and engaged in our benefits offering

Required Experience & Knowledge

  • Relevant labor laws and best practices in US and Canada
  • Basic understanding of the FLSA, ADA, FMLA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, and other relevant policies and laws
  • Full life-cycle recruiting across multiple departments and positions in a relevant environment
  • Discretion and tact when dealing with confidential matters
  • Organizational and time management skills and systems
  • Ability to work independently (with targeted supervision and support)
  • Ability to communicate professionally with all organizational levels, in group and individual formats
  • Strong EQ and sound judgment
