Position Title: Assistant Coach, Women’s Basketball Position Type: Regular Salary Range: $50,266
– $61,899 annually (commensurate with experience) Pay Frequency: Annual A.

POSITION PURPOSE Reporting to the Head Coach of Women’s Basketball, the assistant coach is responsible for assisting in all aspects of running a Division I Women’s Basketball program including, but not limited to: game preparation, teaching and coaching; practices and player conditioning; recruitment and retention of student-athletes; program administration; academic integrity; and donor/alumni public relations and youth programs.

In addition, the assistant coach is responsible for abiding by all conference and NCAA regulations to ensure departmental compliance.

B.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.

Assist with creation and implementation of effective match, practice and conditioning plans for the student-athletes.

Work with Head Coach to develop effective drills and strategies for player improvement.

Assist and/or monitor strength and conditioning programs as needed.

Assist with the recruiting efforts for the basketball staff.

Assist with the recruiting efforts of the coaches and staff in order to recruit the best student-athlete within the admissions, financial and regulatory standards and policies established by the University, WCC and NCAA.

Work with the Associate Head Coach to develop and implement the recruiting plan.

Work with department administrative assistance to develop a comprehensive recruiting database system.

Assist with identifying potential student-athletes and scouting opportunities.

Assist with the scouting efforts for the basketball staff.

Work with the Associate Head Coach to develop and implement the scouting plan.

Scout assigned games.

Prepare an offensive and defensive game plan for each opponent.

Assist with administrative responsibilities of the Women’s Basketball program in an efficient and responsible manner.

Work with various areas of the department (equipment room, facilities, etc.) to ensure proper communication of schedules and other needs.

Assist in the monitoring and verification of program-related expenditures and revenues.

Assist with travel arrangements and finances.

Ensure fiscal responsibility by administering the program’s budget within University and Department guidelines Organize and monitor expenses and revenues for fundraisers, special events and summer programs.

Assist with program promotion, public relations/community outreach appearances, and media-related activities.

Be actively involved in the fundraising activities of the program.

Serve as a resource for interested parties regarding the Women’s Basketball events at Santa Clara.

7.

Skillfully communicate with colleagues and student-athletes.

Serve as a role model and example of sportsmanlike conduct and of the qualities taught by Santa Clara University.

Maintain active communication with internal constituencies.

8.

Display commitment to the academic success of student-athletes.

Work cooperatively and effectively with Academic Support Services staff.

Assist and/or monitor study hall program.

9.

Abide by all Conference, Department and NCAA regulations and assist to ensure departmental compliance.

Successfully pass NCAA recruiting test.

Attend all compliance seminars and reviews.

Maintain current CPR certification.

10.

Other Duties as Assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

This position requires the ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment.

Knowledge Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the sport of women’s basketball is required.

Thorough understanding of NCAA regulations and policies related to managing a Division I program.

Skills Strong, positive communication skills as a coach and as a member of the Department of Athletics.

Abilities Ability to monitor expenses with concern for fiscal responsibility and restricted resources.

Education Bachelor’s degree required.

Years of Experience Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated success in an assistant coach position at the Division I level preferred.
