Job Summary
The director will manage communications, alumni, and selected external affairs for the College of Medicine.
This position reports to the Dean for the College of Medicine and to the CDU Director of Communications.
The director will engage in numerous initiatives including news and editorial editing and writing as needed for various College of Medicine activities including the newsletter, development documents, and other projects as assigned.
Including:
· Continue the quarterly production of the “Sharpest Scalpel,” COM’s Newsletter including “soup to nuts” responsibility and serve as the Editor of the newsletter.
· Oversee the communication planning and execution of special events, such as press conferences and other media opportunities for the College of Medicine.
· Work with a variety of COM programs and key individuals to write about and communicate widely the accomplishments that enhance the visibility for COM and CDU .
· Identify and work with constituent groups to develop meaningful ways to communicate and keep alumni and supporters connected to the university.
· Develop and manage a communication plan for the College of Medicine ( COM ) that includes corporate relations, alumni relations, special events, and marketing and communication initiatives in support of the COM strategic plan.
· Establish and maintain essential relationships, serving as a liaison for the Dean’s communications with Institute senior leaders, University leaders, and other stakeholders.
· Serve as a strategic partner to COM Leadership Team to assist with external relations, communications, and events.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree required.
A terminal degree is an advantage.
Four years of writing and/or editing experience.
Demonstrated ability to write quickly, persuasively, accurately, and clearly on a range of subjects related to an institution of higher education in a deadline-sensitive environment.
Demonstrated aptitude for understanding complex issues and the ability to translate and simplify them for key audiences.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse and multi-cultural staff, fellows, and other constituencies.
Strong research skills and a demonstrated ability to attend to both grammatical and factual details.
High level of discretion and good judgment; ability to work with and manage confidential information.
Ability to multi-task and ability to plan and execute complex projects.
· Analyze and solve problems.
· Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
· Create, compose, and edit written materials.
· Gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
· Make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
· Supervise and train staff.

· PC proficient with strong working knowledge of PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
· Records maintenance skills.

· Strong technical ability and familiarity working with various software.
Preferred Qualifications
A terminal degree is an advantage.
