The Paralegal is focused on supporting Civic in its business purpose working directly in preparing upcoming cases, analyzing and researching fact-finding projects and responsible for developing and maintain and index system for all case files. Assists the office of the EVP, Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel with a variety of support-related duties.

What you’ll do:

* Creates reports based on case specifications and CLO requests.
* Works with CLO and other members in the legal team to develop legal documents, motions and other case filings.
* Develop a case file indexing system that can be used as an active archive for all ongoing and completed cases.
* Monitor changes to government guidelines or regulations and submit reports on pertinent changes.
* Utilize existing files and a variety of other research resources to develop information for pending cases.
* Clear understanding of corporate structure.
* Contribute to trial preparation in litigation practices; provide behind-the-scenes support in the courtroom at hearings and trials or in arbitration, mediation, administrative proceedings and closings.
* Draft legal documents and pleadings, including deposition notices, subpoenas, motions, certifications, contracts, briefs and complains.
* Investigate the facts of a case by interviewing clients and witnesses and performing legal research into case law and precedents.
* Handle discovery – the exchange of certain information between opposing parties to a lawsuit; organize and manage files, documents and exhibits.
* File documents with federal and state courts.

What you’ll need:

* Associate degree in Paralegal Studies required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
* Paralegal certification preferred.
* Industry recognized certification from organizations such as NALA or AACP a plus.
* Experience using legal database software.
* Proficient use of MS Office.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Strong research and report-generating skills
* Personal effectiveness, credibility and integrity
* Strong business acumen
* Ability to handle pressure and work under tight deadlines
* Able to perform various tasks on more than one case simultaneously
* Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills
