Manager, Film Publicity

Netflix is looking for a Manager to spearhead publicity campaigns for its feature films with a focus on UCAN (U.S & Canada), but with the ability to think and partner globally. We need someone who is passionate about movies, understands today’s audience and how and where they consume entertainment news, and has a proven track record working first-hand on the development and execution of high-profile campaigns. The Role The Los Angeles based Manager for Film Publicity will play a key role in strategizing, executing and managing publicity campaigns for a wide swath of films including everything from big budget blockbusters to more independent and nuanced fare. They are a member of a seasoned group of professionals based in the Hollywood office. The Manager will be skilled at making use of multiple earned media channels, including broadcast, print, online and new media. They will play a critical role in communicating with filmmakers, talent and production company partners during production up to and beyond launch. They will focus on creating cultural moments and high impact campaigns, explore new tactics for creating conversation and advocacy, and will be able to communicate different facets of their campaigns to executives, filmmakers, talent and talent representatives. This person will be involved in every aspect of the campaign from strategy and filmmaker/talent liaising to pitching media and coordinating campaigns with cross-functional partners from soup to nuts. A strong business acumen and experience working at a global company is a plus. This person has also worked alongside agencies, or has managed agencies on projects. The manager will also help coordinate requests and initiatives from international markets and will help prioritize what is important and vital to accomplish. They can formulate and manage a budget, and give visibility into their work successfully. This person will also be involved in the awards campaign, strategy and submission process for their titles. The ideal candidate is able to make wise decisions, even when faced with ambiguity and thinks strategically. They don’t fall back on PR 101 tactics and are eager to put a new spin on what a campaign can be. They can articulate what they are – and are not – trying to do. They have good listening skills and are real doer, with the ability to multitask and work at a fast pace with a high-volume workload. They are not afraid to get their hands dirty – and that could mean jumping in to handle tasks that range from writing a strategy, drafting talking points, booking travel or putting together a press day schedule. They collaborate well with partners that range from content/programming to marketing to social to product and beyond. Strong candidates can handle a vast amount of work and they are eager to learn. They are curious and also contribute effectively outside of their speciality. They aren’t timid about assessing their work when they are done to explore what they could have done differently or better. A good fit in the role has a candid and direct communication style. They are willing to admit to mistakes quickly and question values inconsistent with our values and Netflix culture. They understand that sometimes the job requires delivering bad news, and they’re tactful in handling such issues. Qualifications The successful candidate for Manager, Film Publicity will have at least 10 years of entertainment experience in an agency, studio, or network. They have relationships with key media and personal reps as well as the ability to build and maintain connections with key journalists and social media influencers. BA/BS required.
