Group Nine Studios is looking for a Director of Development: Originals, who will be responsible for non-fiction development for streaming and broadcast platforms.
They will be responsible for the ideation, development and solicitation of longform “TV” and features for sale and/or license to networks, digital platforms, clients and partners.
The Director will be tasked with identifying stories and story-types that resonate with a broad, young audience, to develop into long form opportunities.
The ideal candidate will be a strong ideator and writer with an understanding of the unscripted marketplace.
They will have existing relationships with production companies, agencies and talent, and an understanding of format types and genres that are selling across multiple platforms.
The director will be skilled at non-fiction development and the creation of pitch materials
– from one-sheets to full presentation.
They will also oversee the creation of sizzles and proof-of-concept videos with the goal of creating unscripted pitches and programming.
What You’ll Do: * Develop Group Nine Studios original programming slate, reporting into and collaborating with head of Studios* Oversee creation of pitch materials including decks and sizzle reels* Maintain relationship with each brands’ agency reps* Build and maintain relationships with producers, directors, filmmakers, and production companies* Create new pathways to solicit and evaluate pitches for potential development* Track and evaluate the competition

Create writer and director lists developing an inclusive group of strong freelance writers and directors for future programming* Deliver clear and concise notes on projects in development Success Will Look Like: * A robust development slate representative of the Group Nine Media’s family of brands* Year one, 1-2 pilots and/or series sold Must Haves: * Bachelor’s degree* Minimum of 5 -7 years of experience with a network, streamer, production company or related experience* Understanding and passion for purpose-driven news programming* Strong relationships with Buyers, agents, Producers* Strong writing and communication skills as well as an understanding of production* Comfortable in a self-starter environment and collaborative work style* Clear knowledge, understanding, and willingness to create and pitch decks from ideation phase* Strong writing abilities for deck/treatments* Clear knowledge, understanding and willingness to create pitch decks from ideation phase* Strong format experience* Kids experience a plus The perks!
