Our creative office suites are located on the westside and downtown Los Angeles.Position OverviewThe Senior Director, Communications reports to the Executive Director of Michelson Philanthropies (MP), and is responsible for the development and execution of a comprehensive vision and strategy for communications that elevate and amplify the programs and projects of Michelson Philanthropies, its component foundations, and co-chairs Alya and Gary Michelson.The Senior Director will create and deliver proactive messaging and compelling storytelling that captures the impact of MP’s programs, elevates the Michelson brand, and helps drive policy initiatives that advance MP’s mission.The Senior Director will lead all communications activities, including executive thought leadership, external and internal communications, brand reputation, and crisis/issues management.
The ideal candidate will have strong editorial and media relations experience, deep expertise with social and digital media, and be accustomed to serving multiple internal clients with diverse communications needs.Responsibilities:* Work with MP’s Executive Director, and with the leaders of the various Michelson divisions to promote the work of the MP foundations and their impact on critical communities, as well as the vision and philanthropic work of the co-chairs* Manage, supervise, coach and evaluate a team of diverse communications professionals to ensure effective and efficient communications operations and activities* Develop effective data analytics, media monitoring and social listening capabilities to help identify trends, shape public dialogue and perception, and measure ROI on communications programs* Oversee the design, production, and distribution of print and digital publications, promotional materials, websites, graphic design, and social media content creation and management, including video content* Build and maintain relationships with members of media, including print, radio, TV, digital publications, podcasts and other channels* Provide strategic guidance and tactical assistance to executives to prepare them for media events, speeches, presentations and interviews* Direct the composition of internal materials such as newsletters, news releases, announcements, online posts, website updates, video productions, special publications and related Public Relations and marketing projects* Establish a robust and consistent flow of internal communications that inspire and inform employees, vendors, and other institutional partners* Work with the Executive Director to manage crises as they arise (and/or manage outside crisis consultants when appropriate)* Identify opportunities for MP to partner with organizations with like-minded goals in order to amplify and extend the reach of funded programs* The coordination and collaboration with MP department heads around metrics reporting, strategic planning and conversation that reach beyond communications* Financial reporting and management including budgetary planning, expense management, financial tracking and reportingRequirements:Successful candidates for this role will have a mix of the below experience, education, and skills.

Please review and make sure that your skillset aligns with:* Minimum of 12 years of experience in communications, ideally within a mission-based or social impact organization.* 8 years of management experience leading teams, developing strategy and executing plans using strong business acumen skills* Track record leading/managing successful communications campaigns on behalf of social impact efforts* Working knowledge of public policy and experience working on programs with broad public impact* Bachelor’s degree in Communications and/or related field or equivalent work experience in communications or media relations and education that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position.* Top tier media relationships* Experience working closely with high-profile individuals* Exceptionally strong interpersonal and writing skills are required.
