Boeing Satellite Division in El Segundo is seeking Senior Software Architect, passionate about space and excited to work in a multi-disciplined, collaborative engineering environment to develop solutions to unprecedented and complex architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces, and designs for software systems involving both in-house and teammate/supplier software items for a new fleet of Boeing satellites.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for architecting a multi-CSCI/multi processor software system including satellite bus software, communication software, low level hardware/software integration.

  • Responsible for full life-cycle development including requirements analysis, software architecture, designs, coding, unit test, integration and formal qualification.

  • Experience in analyzing system requirements and decomposing them to software requirements. 

  • Ability to take requirements and define a software system architecture across multiple software items.

  • Candidate should possess excellent communications skills to participate in requirements, design and code reviews, have a thorough understanding of version control and software quality attributes, such as testability, portability and maintainability, and enjoy a self-driven and collaborative development approach.

  • Candidate should possess excellent communications skills and works well in a team environment.

  • Must be able to interact well with System Engineers/Analyst as well other members of the Integrated Product Team.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and experience in presenting at program major reviews as well as lead the technical contents of all software technical documents.

  • Familiarity with formal development process and current software engineering topics is highly desired.

This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 10+ years’ experience in software architecture and design of embedded software systems

  • 10+ years’ experience decomposing system/subsystem requirements into software requirements

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience in architecting multi-CSCI/multi processor software systems

  • 5+ years’ experience using DOORs and UML software modelling tools  

  • Experience leading a team of software engineers using agile development process

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in object oriented design, C/C++ implementation and test.

  • 15+ years of direct experience designing and developing software for a real time or non real-time system.

  • Experience working with system/subsystem engineers

  • Experience working with external software suppliers

  • Experience integrating large scale software systems.

  • Experience with avionics control algorithms, hardware interfaces and I/O device drivers, networking, SQL and non-relational databases, web-based development.

  • Experience working in a classified environment and compliant with TOR standards.

  • Experience in Java, C#, JavaScript, Python and TCL a plus.

  • Embedded/real-time operating systems (e.g. VxWorks) experience a plus.

  • UML modeling, test-driven development, agile process, Model-Based System (and Software) Engineering (MBSE), and DevSecOps, Bitbucket, and Atlassian tools experience desired.

  • Familiarity with real-time embedded software development that includes requirements analysis through Formal Qualification.

Typical Education & Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 20 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+15 years’ related work experience, Master+18 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
