Boeing is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer – Mission Assurance Program Lead (Level 6) to join our team in El Segundo, California for the Experimental Systems Group with responsibilities to include Program Mission Assurance, Safety Review Boards, Engineering and Program Review Boards, mission assurance audits, preventive and corrective action, and product delivery and test readiness.

This position will represent the Mission Assurance Capability that will support multiple government and commercial satellite programs. This role will serve as the first stop for the Division Chief Engineer (DCE), the program Chief Engineer, the Division Mission Assurance Director and the Mission Assurance Division Lead needs (Process insight, mission assurance independent reviews (MAIRs), independent technical reviews (TIRs), Flight Test Mission Assurance Readiness Reviews (FTMARRs), Safety Review Boards (SRBs), technical issues and risks, vehicle/component deliveries, among other things. This program leader will coordinate, execute, and lead the mission assurance tasks and activities for all aspects of the GSS programs. The scope of this position could expand to include Mission Assurance responsibilities for future program efforts, as they surface, including the development of proposal inputs and coordination of staffing needs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain and identify improvements for the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of processes, tools, risks, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes

  • Engages, tracks and drives resolution of cross-functional technical issues

  • Program Mission Assurance planning, Execution of Safety Review Boards, Engineering Review Board, Program Control Board, Material Review Board (MRB), Mission Assurance audits, preventative and corrective action, and product delivery and test readiness

  • Ensure mission assurance objectives are met through a collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify the complex lifecycle of the GSS programs

  • Evaluates customer/operational needs to define and coordinate mission assurance requirements

  • Support development and review of GSS products for safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, verification, and other specialties to ensure mission success

  • Strengthening Mission Assurance best practices on the program with focus on local skill development, risk management & early knowledge points, process rigor to include training where needed, and process improvement where indicated

  • Proactive peer reviews and Technical Independent Reviews (TIRs) are part of the scope of this position, to coordinate with the Mission Assurance Division Lead (MADL) and the program and division chief engineers to identify and execute these reviews within the program master plan

  • Sharing and applying best practices through active engagement with required Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and the Mission Assurance leadership team within an established operating rhythm

  • Ensure Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) is applied to engineering program escapes and foster preventive RCCA to maximize opportunity for quality products, program success, competitiveness, and customer satisfaction

This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret/SSBI Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • 10+ years of experience in program execution from concept development, design reviews, verification and qualification, hardware/software delivery and sustainment

  • Experience with one or more of the following: System Engineering/Verification, Mission Assurance, System Safety, and/or Material Review Board

  • 10+ years of experience as a lead engineer

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Successfully completed a Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) by the federal government within the last 5 years

  • Cross-discipline engineering experience

  • Space or Launch Vehicle experience

Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 20 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+15 years’ related work experience, Master+18 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
