Team Psychiatrist

Position Summary: This position will start at approximately 5-10 hours per week; gradually increasing to 20 hours per week.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and present assessments and formulations to the treatment team.
  • Supervise the treatment team in their comprehensive assessments of clients’ psychiatric and psychosocial history.
  • Collaborate with the nurses in assessing and monitoring medical issues as well as referring to and collaborating with outside medical providers.
  • Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medication regularly, provide psycho-education and support to clients and families with regard to medications.
  • Provide psycho-education, support, and counseling to clients’ families as part of their comprehensive treatment plan when needed.
  • Provide crisis assessment, management, and supervision to on-call staff, in person, when possible, and by phone after business hours. Call schedule is flexible and will be crafted as needed.
  • Assist the team leader with administrative issues and supervision of individual team members, providing regular feedback regarding performance.
  • Train staff in the knowledge and skills required for the treatment of severe and persistent mental illness.

Education, Experience, and Knowledge Required

The psychiatrist is board-certified or board-eligible in psychiatry and licensed to practice medicine in the state of California. The psychiatrist has interest in working with a multidisciplinary team and healthcare delivery in the community to persons with severe and persistent mental illness. The psychiatrist has strong clinical skills and experience. Clinical supervisory experience is desirable.
