Journeyman Lineman Instructor

Great Southwestern Construction is looking for an experienced Journeyman Lineman to join our thriving organization to help us grow and scale our exceptional training program located at our Alvarado, Texas office. We are looking for a driven, adaptable, and team-focused trainer who can build successful relationships with a diverse group of Apprentices as they work towards their Journeyman certifications. 

As the instructor, you will teach classes in our Department of Labor-approved lineman apprenticeship program. Our Apprenticeships include underground and overhead distribution, transmission and substation disciplines, and we are looking for an engaging leader who understands how these disciplines work together and can give our new trainees the support they need to learn and excel in the trade. This is a rare opportunity to train side-by-side with our long-standing Apprenticeship and Training Manager as we grow the training facility over the next 1-2 years, with plans for this role to take over as the primary trainer.

Duties

  • Teach approved apprenticeship curriculum to Apprentices in both classroom and field settings
  • Demonstrate proper technique in performing each maneuver being taught
  • Conduct onsite evaluations of team member skillset and help address areas of needed improvement
  • Provide real-life context to the theories and situations being taught

Requirements

  • Must be a Journeyman Lineman (minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Journeyman) 
  • Prior experience as a Journeyman Lineman in at least one of the following areas: overhead/underground distribution, transmission, and/or substation construction
  • Ability to occasionally climb poles to demonstrate proper technique 
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) helpful
  • Prior teaching/training experience a plus
  • Ability to travel locally/regionally up to 15% of the time.

  • Ability to teach in a classroom lecture setting utilizing PowerPoint and other resources.
  • Leadership: a demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through GSWC training methods and practices.
  • Planning: an ability to think ahead and plan over a 6-12 month time span.
  • Management: the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Problem analysis and problem resolution at a functional level.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience ($93,600-$104,000) DOE. Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. Performance raises for each plan year and are subject to management recommendation and internal committee review. Weekly pay via direct deposit or pay card.
