Dr. Helen Goodridge is looking for a Postdoctoral Scientist to join her research group in the Cedars-Sinai Regenerative Medicine Institute!

The Goodridge Lab studies the production of myeloid cells (neutrophils, monocytes, macrophages and DCs) and their roles in infectious and inflammatory diseases, cancer, aging and tissue regeneration, working closely with other Cedars-Sinai researchers (including the Svendsen, Chen and Hazelett groups), as well as external collaborators. In recent studies, the Goodridge Lab has defined novel pathways and mechanisms of monocyte differentiation (PMID: 25597637, 29166589), demonstrated the impact of hematopoietic aging/rejuvenation on cognitive function (PMID: 30820468), and defined immune dysregulation in severely ill COVID-19 patients (PMID: 33357411). The applicant should have an interest and expertise in immunology and/or hematology, with strong experience of flow cytometry, tissue culture, molecular biology (e.g. scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq, ChIP, DNA barcoding), rodent studies (e.g. adoptive transfer, bone marrow transplantation) and/or evaluation of human samples.

The postdoc will work independently under the direction of the PI (Dr. Goodridge) and cooperatively with a team of other research staff to develop one or more research projects, plan and conduct experiments, and prepare data for publication and grant proposals. The postdoc will also collaborate with other investigators, train junior lab members, participate in lab meetings, and present their research at conferences.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Submit fellowship proposals and assisting the PI with grant proposals (but not responsible for generating grant funds).
  • Publish research findings as first author or co-author, and presenting at internal and external meetings.
  • Participate in collaborations with other investigators.
  • Design and perform experiments.
  • Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyze the results with the Principal Investigator, maintaining appropriate written and electronic records.
  • Develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols.
  • Analyze, interpret, summarize and compile data.
  • Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout training period.
  • Operate and maintain equipment and instruments.
  • Assist with training of junior lab members.

Education:

Doctorate (MD, PhD, VMD, or DDS) in area directly related to field of research specialization, required.

Experience and Skillset:

  • Highly motivated and works independently on research projects designed by a mentor (typically the PI) within area of specialization, as well as collaboratively with other researchers.
  • Acquires thorough technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment.
  • Demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection, analysis, operation and maintenance of specialized equipment.
  • Bioinformatics/computational experience would be a significant advantage.
  • Prior experience with cell culture (stem cell culture desirable) and rodent models is preferred.
  • Some experience with cellular and molecular biology techniques, flow cytometry, microscopy and immunohistochemistry is a plus.
  • Able and willing to perform animal husbandry and work with mouse and human tissues.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Knowledge of safety standards.
  • Scheduling flexibility including evening, weekend and holiday rotation commitment, if necessary. Travel may be required.
